So, what are some movies you really thought you wouldn't like? Maybe you even came on this message board and expressed your disgust for how bad the movie looked, but then...SURPRISE! It actually turned out to be a decent movie.
Dawn of the Dead remake for me, although I never truly hated the idea of a remake.

I don't have time to see all the movies I expect to like.....

I think alot of people end up getting dragged to see big blockbusters or ad-saturated movies with groups of friends. I certainly didn't want to see League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but I was hanging out with friends and saw it (it sucked just as much as I figured it would). Under the same circumstances I remember seeing The Mummy (I'm just remembering this because of the Sommers thread) and thinking it would suck giant donkey balls, but I actually thought it was great (not the normal kind of movie I like but hey, why not!).

Things change people. Maybe it got good reviews, or you happen to catch it on HBO or when a group of people want to see it. Have you truly never seen a movie that you thought would be bad?
In that vein I thought Moulin Rouge and Gladiator would be mindless overhyped pointless movies but was sadly mistaken.

There have been numerous occasions where I've gone with my wife to movies that she's been dying to see and I usually hate them. The most recent notable exception was how much I thoroughly enjoyed Love Actually.

I've been dragged or otherwise forced to see movies that I wasn't all that interested in. However, if it was truly a movie that I expected to completely hate and loathe I'd do whatever it took to get out of it. Big difference.

Resident Evil - I am an insane RE fan, and when I heard the storyline for the movie, I went apesh*t, and trash-talked it for months. I read an early review on a friday the 13th forum I'm on that completely trashed the movie, so for some reason I decided to go see RE on opening night with a group of friends. I loved it so much, I saw it like 8 times in the theater, was waiting at Best Buy when the DVD came out, and watched it twice that night, and again the next morning. I'm eagerly anticipating the sequel, which means it will probably suck hardcore....
Dawn of the Dead - this was just a terrible idea from the start, IMO. I had no intentions of ever seeing this, until I read Jackskeleton's review of it. I went opening night and was blown away by how cool it was. Saw it again, and will eventually catch it before it leaves theaters.

Moulin Rouge - wouldn't say I love it. There is plenty in there I still hate, but overall it was enjoyable and I have watched it multiple times.
Just Married - thought I would absolutely hate it, but my wife really wanted to see it so I complied. The ending was sappy, but as a whole I thought the movie was very funny and I enjoyed it.

I don't normally pre-judge movies like that, so there aren't any movies I thought I would hate/loathe. I didn't like Fifth Element when I first saw it, but it's one of my favorite movies now.

Not sure I thought I'd absolutely hate it, but didn't expect much.
I love it now.

I'd have to say Master & Commander. I generally don't like Russell Crowe, but I thought he did a wonderful job in the movie. Also, Paul Bettany and the rest of the supporting cast were all wonderful, and Peter Weir's direction was near flawless.
