Southern Cali. DVD retailers.
Does anyone know any good places to buy DVD's in Southern California. I will be going to the city Irvine in a week to do some business work. Since I am coming I thought I might as well check out some of the good deals around. Reply if anyone has any good places to go in Orange County. Thanks!!!

The BEST DVD store in the country is in Huntingtom Beach, on Beach Blvd. It is called DVD Planet. Thier website is www.dvdplanet.com
It is the only B&M that they have, and it is nothing but all to wall DVDs. Prices can be beat for the most part, but NO ONE comes close to their selection.
It is next to Beverages and More on the left side of the street if you are going south/west.

Regarding the prices, they are 25-30% off retail. Like I said, prices can be beat on most, not all, items.
It is, bar none, the BEST place for Criterions, as they are all 30% off.

Employees are irrelevant. Scan the DVD, and take the money. I don't expect much more then that.
Like I said, the prices can be beaten elsewhere (except for Criterion), but the selection cannot. Can you, dvde, name a brick and mortar store in So Cal with a better selection?

I'm actually in California (L.A.) and I can honestly say that everything here is a little more pricey than back home. Stick with the national retailers and you'll prolly do fine.

DVD Talk Reviewer & TOAT Winner
Is there anyplace down there that has import (non-R1) DVDs? Also anyplace that has a good selection of laserdiscs and CED videodiscs? I'm taking a week off work soon just to go down there and look for junk.

Best place I know of for non-R1 DVDs is Amoeba Music, on Sunset Blvd. and Cahuenga in Hollywood. Kind of pricey though -- as are all of their DVDs. But they do have a huge import section.
Don't know about the other two things. Laser Blazer in West L.A. used to have a lot of laser discs. Don't know if they still do. You might want to give them a call. 310-475-4788. They also have a small import DVD section, but not as big as Amoeba's.
