I didn't expect 13 going on 30 to be doing that well. Im sure that Man on Fire will be tops this weekend however.

I'm surprised to see Man on Fire so far up there. I didn't expect it to do so well. The full weekend numbers should be interesting.

Wow, The Girl Next Door won't even make a million this weekend.

I was surprised to see Man On Fire make over $7 million, I almost guaranteed myself that the film would be dead on arrival. I guess I was wrong, but who will make more today is the question? Will the teenagers go and see 13 Going On 30 or will older folks go out and make the drive to see Man on Fire? Today's gross determines whether 13 Going on 30 is #1 this weekend or if it'll be Man on Fire.

Looks like Kill Bill: V2 will be lucky to make it to $10 million this weekend and The Punisher might make it to $6 million.

But compared to Hellboy (easily the biggest bomb of all time) it's doing great!

God I can't believe 13 on 30 is making that much. I just thought it looked...terrible. And...save for the fact I'd like to see her naked and do naughty things to her, I don't like Jennifer Garner as an actress. But hey...I suppose most don't agree with me.

That's a surprising number for 13 Going On 30. Further proof that idiots buy more movie tickets than they should.

I took my girlfriend to see it last night & she loved it, are you saying she is an idiot? Why are people idiots for seeing a movie like this, it is what it is, & given movies like the "Punisher", "Kill Bill", "Hellboy" & "Another boring Denzel movie" at the top of the B.O. right now, what is wrong with a movie for girls. That said, I slep through the entire movie, so I can't comment on it, but saying someone is an idiot for going to see this, is well. . . something an idiot would say.

Not sure if this is a joke or an inside thing or whatever but after all is said and done (including overseas and dvd) I think this film will do ok. If you want recent biggest bombs of all time, then look at The Alamo.

It's an inside joke. Scot and many others kept on pointing at Hellboy two weekends ago and calling it a bomb and a failure even though The Alamo and Girl Next Door came out which were the real failures. since then these guys wont even let go of the fact that Hellboy is doing good. Check out the punisher thread for further proof as they keep calling them box office failures even though they will be making their respected studios plenty of cash.

I figured as much. I haven't seen any of the movies in question (tough getting to the show with a new baby) though it is pretty obvious to me that Hellboy is a decent flick (at least not a bomb) and will make it's money back while other movies in question may not be worth even a rental. I will be checking out Girl Next Door when it hits DVD for obvious reasons.

I wouldn't be calling The Girl Next Door a bomb. There is no way that film cost more than $15 million to make tops (and it's made $12 million so far).

I agree. Although i think Fox was expecting a modest hit out of it

Fox pushed it back a month to do more marketing on it even though the many test screenings they did were positive enough. Fox was really expecting more then it ended up pulling in on that first weekend. It is a title that will do great in dvd sales (like Eurotrip) because it seemed to be targeting the crowd that actually couldn't go to see the R rated film. That market will pick it up easy on dvd.

But for the sake of pointing out that weekend openers. Hellboy in its second weekend did better then the new releases and it was being called a bomb

Well... not really.

Fox pulled it because some obscure movie about Jesus was a-cleanin' up at the box office, and would swallow their little porno film up. So they bumped it a month to give it a little head room.

The press tours (Cuthbert went everywhere!), magazine covers, screenings... they all coincided with the original release date. It's futile to suggest it now, but I feel, had they stuck to their guns and held that first date, the film would've done much better. But then again, outside of internet message boards, I'm having trouble finding people who liked it. Real trouble.

I agree with your DVD statement.
