I have some passes but they cant be used for Special Engagements..

About how long does it usually take? Is it 1 week, or is it more theater specific?

I hope its not like the new releases section at Blockbuster. I went in there in December and The Sixth Sense was still on the new releases shelf.

In general it is one week. Some releases last for two weeks, but most are one. Just check your local newspaper listings...they usually list the special engagements with a star or some marker.

I usually found that it varies. some places take a full 3-4 weeks to drop off as a special engagement if it's a big name while other times it could drop off second week.

I use to get free passes from my work. My local AMC theater said I had to wait 10 days to use them. I would just go on a Wed. after the second weekend. Just call the theater and ask to be sure.

Ah, good call. I should've mentioned they were AMC as well, but you're right.. calling them (of course) is the best bet.

10 days seems to be the industry standard - since most films open on a Friday, the 10 days gets them through the first two weekends of the engagement before the discount passes kick in,

Blue passes, or "passports" take ten days before you can use them at Loews, which basically means first two weekends are off-limits. It should be written on the individual passes as to whether or not they can be used.
