Wow. I'm so utterly alone on that Salvador choice. I think it's arguable his most honest work... and excessively underappreciated.
Born on the 4th of July feels excessively melodramatic. I also don't think Tom Cruise was right for that role. Platoon is still a great movie, but between the two I'll take Salvador.

I don't regard it as highly because, to me, the James Belushi character and his 'humor' were really out of place - it felt more like Belushi was playing himself.
