"Frasier" or"Joey"?
--Long running TV show ends.
--The smartest/dumbest character gets a spinoff.
--Main character moves to different city so as to explain the lack of original series cameos.
--Sibling of main character becomes a main character too.
--Add another family member of extreme age (child or elderly) for comedic effect.

I am projecting failure on this one.
Prior to Friends, Matt LeBlanc was the male version of Allison LaPlaca with regard to show killers.
I have a bad feeling this will be history repeating itself.

I would agree with jeffkjoe. I doubt this is going to end up running as long as Frasier. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it tanks right off the bat if it lasts fewer eps than Frasier did seasons. It will probably at least get the season, but nothing is for sure.

I wasn't trying to compare longetivity--but the concept. Look at the first post again: am I describing Joey or Frasier? Impossible to say.

"Joey" will be facing a big challenge because NBC will be expecting a smash hit right out of the gate.
I don't know what they're paying LeBlanc, but it's probably a lot, and Drea de Matteo probably isn't coming cheap, either.

Yea they're banking on "Joey". I mean they've snubbed Scrubs' Thursday show, moved it to Tuesday and instead of putting it back they stick "Joey" there.
Bring back Scrubs on Thursdays you NBC morons. Take that to the bank.

I'm holding out some hope. They at least got the creators and writers of Friends back for Joey. Will it be as great as Frasier and last for eleven seasons, highly unlikely. As funny a character Joey is, after twenty years his bit will get kind of stale.
Still looking forward to it, it'll be nice to still have one Friend around to watch on TV. I still wish they would have married Joey off to Monica so we could have a "Chandler" spinoff. That's be great!

I'll watch "Joey", see if it works. Is that the title they're going with?

LeBlanc and La Placa share another quality: they're both very talented and funny. There's a reason they kept getting jobs. Hopefully the writing for this will be as strong as it was in the early seasons of Frasier.

If they make Joey less of an idiot the show will probably succeed. But if Joey continues to be the extreme idiot he can be, the show will get tired really quickly.

Allison LaPlaca is an actress that was in a series of pilots and shows in the 1980s and 1990s which all went down in history as short-lived sitcoms cancelled after one or two seasons (if that).
Matt LeBlanc had a similar repitoire for a while as well.
Allison LaPlaca was in:
The John Larroquette Show (cancelled 1996)
Tom (cancelled 1994)
Jackie Thomas Show (Cancelled 1992)
Stat (cancelled 1991)
Open House (cancelled 1991)
Duet (cancelled 1989)
She also had a short guest star spot on Friends in Season 4. She played Rachel's boss at Bloomingdale's (that Chandler has a short love interest in). She is eventually
Spoiler:
Matt LeBlanc had a few failed sitcoms in hos own right:
TV 101 (cancelled 1988)
Top of the Heap (cancelled 1991)
Vinnie and Bobby (cancelled 1992 MWC spinoff)
Granted, he is not to the extent of the Queen Miss LaPlaca, but let's not forget his few appearances on Just the Ten of Us, which should count for something.
