Maybe I'm late to all this, but at our theater here in town, "Hellboy" is spelled "Heckboy" on the marquee (both sides).
How stupid.

You've gotta be kidding! Theater owner must have one of those DVD players that edit out content.

I'm fairly certain that that's against some MPAA to Director's Guild rules. You can't just go changing the name on marquees. Abbreviating for length is one thing, but changing it lke that is another. Whats to stop them from posting 'Scooby Doo 2' as 'X Men 3'. Or 'Pitch Black' as 'Pitch African Americans'.

I do the marquees for my theater here. I abbreviate stuff like I put Scooby Doo 2, Lord of the Rings 3. It's all depending on how I feel at that time but I would never put something like Heckboy. If I was that theater I'd be pretty embarrassed.

They could do a double feature of "Heckboy" and "Jack-highney: the movie"

I know the manager at one of my local theaters which is in a mall, and he told me that when they had Jackass the property manager of the mall came to the theater to make absolutely sure that that was the title and that it wasn't some kind of practical joke or subversive prank against the management. He didn't want it up there because he didn't want to run the risk of offending other shoppers at the mall, but since it was verified that Jackass really was the title then even he admitted there was nothing he could do about it.

If the distributor would be informed of that (ahem) they would give the theatre manager quite a talking-to.

And Toad's dollar theater is still showing screenings of Queen of the Darned.

Heckboy? That's amusing enough. I laughed at my local theater, who was showing the movie "Dawn of the Dad", which, doesn't sound that scary.

Heh...this marquee is at a theatre I grew up attending. It just went out of business three months ago, so there's nothing there. I should convince some of my juvenille delinquent acquaintences to break into the theatre, get the letters, and put this back up for old time's sake.

A local paper where I live had the title of the movie spelled "Jacka**."

These type of restrictions need to end. I think we could protect the younger kids from more inappropiate things than a word like "hell".
