More DirecTV Questions
hello all,
as a current DTV customer getting ready to move (to a new home), i'm a little confused by the whole system, and i'm looking for a little advice..
when i move, i'd like to add an additional 3-4 standard DTV receivers to the new house. what is the best way to go about doing this? get them off ebay? or through an authorized DTV dealer? how much am i looking to spend here by doing either?
also, i'm miffed by the whole access card thing - what's the story? i see them selling on ebay for upwards of $100... i'm confused as to why i would want an access card with no receiver.. i guess i'm just looking to have this concept explained to me a little better.
any help would be greatly appreciated. moving 2 weeks from today, so the sooner the better. thanks!

Unless you have a high price HD STB or a DirectTivo to bring with you I would just find a new package deal for a 4 room free install with a 3LNB dish and a multiswitch as if you were a new customer. Then if you have a HD STB or Tivo just swap them out with what they install. No sense bringing along your old equipment to the new house when you can get new STBs and a new dish for free.

well, i do have a modded DTiVo that i'll be bringing with me, along with the fact that i haven't completed my initial 1-year contract yet, so i don't think the 'new customer' thing will work for me..

Call up and ask to talk to retention tell them and they will make it happen.
Let them know you are thinking of going to Dish, and that you are also hearing good things about Voom.
They will work with you to keep you.

sounds good. thanks BDB.
another question; re: installation.
so in my condo, i only had 2 receivers, with cables coming from the dish, into the house through a hole in the wall, and running along the floor from room to room through holes in the walls.
most homes are wired for cable (screw the coax cable into the outlet in each room; cables are run throughout the house in the walls). will a DTV installer do this, or is this something you have to do yourself?? i guess what i'm asking is, will the cables in your walls work for DTV, or would those need to be replaced if you wanted to do this??
thanks again for the help. 10 days till the move, and i just wanna make sure i have all my bases covered.

If you are moving into a house, just call diectv and ask for the movers package. You take all your direct receivers with and they install a new dish and run all the cables to the receivers. The package cost $24.99 and you extend your committment for one year from date of installation. If you want to upgrade to an Hd or Tivo ask them about deals they have going on.When do the install make sure you tell them how rooms need cable run to.
