Quickly...
Tina Fey wrote a somewhat sharp script, but the unimaginative direction from Mark Waters brings the film down.
It traffics in the routine high school girl/clique clichés that we've seen a million times now.
The cast is game, but that only takes the film to the hour mark. The rest is fairly painful to sit through.
If you’re in a pervy mood: Lohan and Chabert look like a million bucks – in fact, all the girls look great.
It blows a great opportunity to shake up this bone-dry genre by ultimately running out of gas and laughs.

Cafeteria clique rundowns.
An extra sensory joke with the punchline, "ESPN."
I dunno about that whole "good screenplay" thing...

A good screenplay for this type of movie.
I expected it to be awful and it wasn't. Not saying it's going to win awards it's just better then most movies in this genre.

And don't get me started... There should be a thread devoted to all the movies this past year that have fart jokes in them. What a lame and lazy way to get a laugh!

Saw a screening of it last night.. had to leave the last few minutes tho to make another screening. Felt really bad as my friend and I walked right past Tina Fey standing in the exit getting ready to do Q&A.
It was actually a funny film. Lots of good moments
And when did Lohan sprout them boobs?

I saw Mean Girls tonight...
At a college screening tonight. Thanks you Lorne Micheals for not making another movie out of a stupid sketch and making a movie with some funny source material. Very funny. Loved it. Tim Meadows had some great lines at the principal. The girl who played Regina was perfect as the "Queen Bee" and the supporting cast was good. Amy Poehler was a little under used but in the scenes she had she very funny. Basic plot is, A girl grows up in Africe without a lot of social interaction. Falls in love with popular boy so tries to become popular. Becomes popular takes ove the "Queen Bees" place in the school and then becomes the most hated girl in school. Learns its not all its cracked up to be and becomes her old self again. Very good movie and I will say probably as good as Clueless. Three stars.

I found "Mean Girls" to be an amusing, acerbic look at building yourself up at the expense of others in a high school setting. The script has Tina Fey's fingerprints all over it and it took me a little while to warm up to it, but as the film got going, it got funnier and managed to wind up its tale in a feel-good manner, albeit a little on the safe side, but the underlying warmth of the transformations shined through and through.
Lindsay Lohan has come mighty far from being those 2 little girls in "The Parent Trap". Most of the performances by the mean girls are just self-involved enough to produce laughs, while allowing some room for growth.
I give it 3 stars or a grade of B.
