Angel's Back Tonite! -- "Underneath" 04.14.2004

Spoiler:
Underneath

While protecting Eve from a bounty hunter (Adam Baldwin), Angel grills her for info on the Senior Partners' plans and learns that an exiled Lindsey may have all the answers. But first the gang must save him from the torture dimension he currently occupies. Meanwhile, Wes gets to know Illyria better.

Nice to have Angel back and all, but a little part of me dies every time I see their "the final 6 episodes" commercial.

Why do I always get into these shows right before they go off the air?

Make sure you get Angel season one and onwards on dvd, you've still got loads of gems to discover. I've mourned enough on the cancelation debate, it was like burying friends.

Well, I've already watched the bulk of the episodes I missed on TNT's daily repeats...

It's funny, though, I got into both Buffy and Angel near the tail end of their second to last seasons.

Final six. Alas, is this what we are fighting for? The last six? Where's the renewal that we want? A lot of great things some of our more well-to-do Angel fans (like donating to a charity in the name of Angel & buying cake for all the cast and crew), WB pooped on all of us. I never seen a successful show get dumped like Angel. Sienfeld was begged not to stop, Friends ran waaaayyyyy too long (and is getting a spin-off!), Law and Oder has numerous sister shows. WB didn't even offer them another spin-off option. Oh well, God bless dvds...

See you all after the show tonight.

I'm going to miss this show, that was a good episode.

Looks like Joss got another Firefly alum on the payrole too.

Really enjoyed the episode.

Wonder when or if Gunn will be returned?

Really taking some truly different directions with the core characters. Great!!!

???"Hello Dad?"???

"Smurf!"

Loved the new opening credits.

I want more of dreaming by Wes.

Hell was reminiscent of an X-Files episode for me. Gotta love the automatic weapons in action by the wife and kid.

Gunn is paying his penance for now, I can't imagine him being stuck there forevah.

"Jane" cleans up nicely in a business suit.

This was a good hour of TV, too bad only 5 more episodes left.

I kept thinking "So, there are only close to four hours left of Angel - EVER, yet Smallville will almost assuredly be renewed..."

Does that sound right..?

I really loved this ep. It seems like Joss and co and going to stuff these last episodes full of story and I for one can't wait to see how it all plays out.

It was great to see the return of classic Gunn, albeit for 15 minutes.

::sigh:: I'm really going to miss this show.

I'm thinking that "Angel" is the only hour-long that the WB saw fit to cancel.

**** them. **** them up their asses. I hope they go belly-up next year.

I like how the major storyline has slowly built over the year. The line about "two of your soldiers are already down" just focuses it even better.

Man, I'll miss this show!

Must suck to be Mercedes McNab. Finally get your name in the main credits only to have the show last for a small handful of episodes beyond it.

I think he meant Fred and Gunn. Though actually you were correct - it should have technically been THREE.

I was thinking the same thing! Perhaps Mutant Enemy was too... if her character was to be gradually expanded into a bigger role worthy of inclusion in the main title sequence, they might as well pat her on the back with THAT for the final six episodes since they ain't gonna get to THOSE developments. (Remember that Joss likes to play with the opening credits - see from Buffy "Superstar" and "Welcome to the Hellmouth".)

I thought the episode was so-so. The main plot was fine, but every time they cut to Wesley and Ilyria it seemed to suck all the life out of the episode.

I saw it as the first part of a six-part arc. I think they're building to something - I'll hold judgement until it's over.

(I hope they bring Lilah back for at least one last scene)

I'm really happy that we have new Angel episodes but really sad that there are only 5 left.

What a way for Gunn to step up. I hope they go rescue him.

With everything going on, it almost seems like there willl be no way for Joss to wrap everything up completely.

Why does the WB think we're stupid? How many times did they remind us that we were watching a "fresh" Angel?

I was getting annoyed with that too. I'm guessing it's their "hip" replacement for "all-new"?

It's like they're selling fabric softener instead of a TV show!

Of course I don't like "all new..." either.

Actually, it was correct the way he said it. Cordy was never a "soldier" this season. She never even woke up from her coma. That would be like Lindsey saying that Angel was FOUR soldiers down and was talking about Doyle.

I think they will "Re deposit" Lindsey when they are done with him, and take back Gunn...

This episode was great IMHO, just makes me even angrier its going away. Smallville is just "Dawson's Creek" with superpowers. Angel doesn't fit in with WB's mold I guess...
