Is the XBOX supposed to be LOUD?
I just got an XBOX because of the price drop (lucked out and got a Samsung drive), but I was pretty surprised when I turned it on because it is LOUD. Is this to be expected? I have Gamecube and PS2 also and neither of them stood out in my mind as being as noisy as the XBOX....
Did I get unlucky and get a bad XBOX? Does it go away after time? Is this just how its supposed to be?

for some games, the xbox seems louder than it should be. really crunching away.
but then, i think the ps2 is also pretty loud at times (i have the older one, not the newer quieter one).

sounds like a loud computer fan... I do have a Antec Sonata case for my computer (supposed to reduce noise output) so maybe I've just gotten used to quieter devices.

Like a Sega Dreamcast loud? If so then there is a problem!
My Xbox is very silent. If I was you I'll return it to where you bought it and get another one.

The Dreamcast IS loud, as far as the sound it sends to your TV/Amp. The rare occasion I pull it out I get blasted by the opening chime on a volume level that's fairly average for the Cube, Xbox, PS2, and SNES.

well, I'm not too old (24) that's why I'm figuring I may have a defective unit. Sitting 10 feet away, I hear the hum all the time and its VERY noticeable when there is no sound coming from the game (loading, etc.) This is even with a mountain of electronic equipment nearby (HDTV, DVD player, receiver, etc etc).
