Well, I guess I might as well start some discussion here.
I'm sort of a fan of this show, I watched one of the episodes two weeks ago, and enjoyed, and just caught this one. Well kind of, i was sort of doing other things.
Anyway, I liked this one alot. This show has some great characters, and I have a little crush on Jaye, even if she can be a little annoying. I always enjoy Sadler, and he's a funny guy.
Some great lines, and I enjoyed the high school reunion thing. I'll probably find myslef in a similar situation to Jaye, not exactly looking forward to it.
I wish I payed more attention to the show, it probably missed a few funny things. I do like that they don't play up the talking objects so much, it has every potential to be lame.

I love this show, so it is therefore doomed to failure...
"Did you know our basic cable has lesbian porn?" ... what an ending.

I loved the "Universe's butt puppet" line....
I'm starting to see a lot of parallels between Jaye and me, in regard to outlook and attitude (minus the talking inanimate objects).
So much so that last night my wife said, "Oh my God, she's YOU!"...

WF is an interesting show. If it were moved to CBS or NBC, it would get much better ratings. I'd say the same for That 70's show, a show that gets critical praise but poor ratings.

I looked at the ratings for my local market, and it finished in 5th, behind Smackdown! even (of course, I am in North Carolina). Is this show at risk? FOX has shown support for Arrested Development even with its low ratings, but Im not sure if they are going to support something else in the same way, and with Century City just getting canned, I have my doubts.
This is a great show...theyve taken a premise that seems like it would be really over the top and turned it into a great, funny show...plus Caroline Dhavernas is gorgeous

When Sharon was delivering the glass of milk to her father, my wife commented that it was a pretty cool shot, taken from above as she ascends the staircase. I suddenly burst out laughing.

My apologies to everyone. I enjoyed the show so naturally it gets canned. Hopefully the unaired episodes will get some exposure somewhere somehow.

I can't fault Fox. They put on original, quality shows. It's the ratings and the Nielsens or the viewing public at large that apparently isn't showing any interest in these shows.

Why don't they support shows anymore? They aired four episodes, you cannot gauge viewers with that many, especially with such shitty promotion. Jesus, man, it wasn't even given a chance. I think Fox just wants to cancel shows, the higher ups just get off on it.

The key thing is that Fox wanted this show dead. They moved it to Thursday at 9pm for one episode. That same Thursday had the third to last episode of the biggest new show this season, and the first new episode of the biggest scripted program on television in three weeks. They were either high on some really good stuff or just wanted an excuse for cancellation when they decided that last Thursday was the make or break day for the show. But supporting the show isn't the real issue imo.
I think the bigger question is why Fox continues to bother with these shows. I've been continually getting pissed off at Fox since Brimstone in 1998, and every season it goes on and on. The exact same story with a different show. For seven years, the list of shows Fox has pulled the same stuff with is insane. With the list below, it's becoming apparent that Fox is mismanaged. You cannot have this many failures of the same basic fan-base aired at the exact same time without a single success and not get some sort of a message...
The Visitor (Aired before Brimstone actually), Freakylinks, Firefly, John Doe, Lone Gunmen, Harsh Realm. Millennium and Dark Angel at least lasted a couple seasons, but still were overall failures and had abrupt endings. Keen Eddie, Action, Greed, The Tick, Undeclared, Greg the Bunny and Andy Richter were comedies/dramas at other times, but still the same basic theme.
The obvious answer is that Fox is still looking for another X-Files... It was a breakout, obscure show that aired on Friday nights. Well, that was 11 years ago and Fox is still trying, and has not really had a single success. Probably the closest thing to a success was the X-Files kinda spin-off, Millennium. Dark Angel being a close second.
Like Big Whoppa said, they put on original quality shows. But they have not had a single "break-out" success in 11 years, and still they continue. And the same small audience that worships these shows as true art get's pissed off year after year, but keeps coming back for more with the next good show. They either need to stop producing these cultish shows that are completely original or they need to accept that they aren't going to be breakout ratings boosters, and accept that they produce some of the highest quality television available and hope people notice.
On the positive side, this cancellation really doesn't bother me. I was prepared for it, and savored every episode that aired as it's last. Hopefully the UK or a cable station will pick the unaired episodes up, and we'll get a DVD release in a couple of years...
