Young Adam -- starring Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton

I saw the film a couple weeks back at a local film festival. I'd just like to hear someone's opinion on it whether you liked it or not. Its a film starring Ewan McGregor and Tilda Swinton.

From what I have heard it's not that good - the NC-17 rating might draw in some people looking for some racy sex scenes, but ultimately the story I have heard is lacking.

I didn't much care for it. I don't really like stories where you're supposed to feel for a character who sleeps with every actress in the movie. I gave it a 2.5 out of 5.

Loved it. The disjointed continuity and ambiguous morality provided a little edginess. I'm a big fan of movies that expect a little thought on my part. Great cast, too.

Want to see this, as I love David Byrne's soundtrack. "The Great Western Road" was my favorite song of 2003.

Warning: Bumping this thread up because just watched it at the Univ. theater.

I definitely would recommend this film - can't really say I enjoyed it, but I was moved by it. Quite gritty ...

The Landmark theatre I saw "Young Adam" at, included a short animated film with the film entitled "Joe Blow". As for the film, what a waste of talent, the story seemed to go on auto-pilot and was the film's greatest weakness. The score and cinematography were commendable, but the film's characters were unsympathetic and by the end all of it seemed vapid and forgettable. Even the sex for this NC-17 rated film, seemed tepid and unerotic. I was disappointed.

I saw it. I thought it was intriguing.

Also, for those of you who want to go just to see Ewan's "lightsaber," don't. See it for the film and not just for him.

B+

I really wanted to see this film, (McGreogor is one of my fav actors) but it never came in my area...it's too bad most theaters wouldn't think of showing an NC-17 film, I guess I'll just wait for the dvd.

I enjoyed Young Adam, being a big fan of MacGregor and Swinton. Excellent atmosphere and acting. Reminded me of Cronenberg's Spider (particularly the shot of the gasworks on the banks of the river).

Eh, it was alright. Nothing special and the film seems to be missing a climax. (No, not THAT kind, it has plenty of those)

re: Young Adam -- starring Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton

BUMP

I've been working my way through some of David Mackenzie's older films since HoHW. I had seen a few of his already and always wanted to see this film for Ewan, but never did. I guess the cut I got wasn't NC-17. I didn't think it was THAT bad with the sex compared to some things, but yea a lot nudity. I always thought Emily Mortimer was cute, but she has a tremendous rack. Ewan was great in the film as per usual, but I didn't care much for it. Also, maybe I completely missed, but why the hell is it called Young Adam?

I saw another of Mackenzie's called Mr. Foe (or Hallam Foe in some countries). That had Sophia Myles in it. Whatever happened to that chick? She's gorgeous. I guess she had a kid and took it easy on the acting.

I haven't seen it in a while, I remember liking it when I first saw it. I'll have to give the DVD a spin sometime soon. I think the Adam in the title is referring to the old Testament.

Well that would explain it.
