Nathan gets the dreaded draft letter. Nathan is determined to get Conscientious Objector status based on his beliefs. Sam tries to help by getting Meg to talk to Drew about this issue. Meg tells Sam that she and Drew are broken up, but will see him anyway for him. Drew sets up Nathan with one of his professors who is sympathetic to his situation. Nathan is confronted with the arguments that the government will use to overcome the objections.
Meg and Sam wait while Nathan has his "petition to get out of the war" meeting. Meg discovers that Sam has broken up with his girlfriend. There's hint of them moving towards each other in a romantic sense as Meg holds Sam's hand as Nathan walks out of the meeting, with his petition denied.
Helen goes to Beth, tells her that she knows of Beth's pregnancy and leaves many letters from JJ with her to read. Beth decides to keep the baby, but she's been cut off by her parents financially. Helen tells Jack of the pregnancy and her plight, she leads Jack to make the right decision to offer Beth a place to stay during her pregnancy. Beth shows up to live with the Pryors.
Rox and Luke break up. Luke simply keeps pushing Rox away at each and every turn. Rox gets a gig to style the hair of some of the feature acts' backup singers on American Bandstand. Rox uses this gig to give Luke her 2 weeks notice since Luke just doesn't want to be with her anymore.
Will's School wants to keep him back a year, Helen convinces the school (the mother superior, I guess) otherwise by citing his strong will to overcome his polio affliction and his strong rehab effort. Helen also cited that setting Will back would break his spirit given that he's always had the brace on and been an outsider all his life.
Jack is still thinking about running for councilman position. With his charitable decision to take in Beth, Helen appears to be on board with Jack's political ambitions.
JJ and the troops are placed under a new Corporal Stewart who doesn't listen to Pham and gets his troops caught in a minefield, then the corporal lies about Pham being the one who led the troops astray. Both Perez and JJ speak up and try to paint a more correct picture of what happened. Later, as JJ's troops are pinned down, the corporal wants to leave a man behind and Perez isn't happy with the decision, so as Stewart retreats, Perez shoots him from behind, shocking JJ. JJ takes command and has Perez relieved of duty while in combat.

I was a little confused by the Rox/Luke storyline. Didn't Rox essentially choose Luke over Lenny? And last week he was begging her to be his girlfriend and I thought she agreed.
But now he is all insecure and acting like he was her second choice. Did I miss something?

This is one of the best shows that nobody knows about. It's good to see a thread up for it. I'm glad that they took the realistic approach and denied Nathan because that's how it was back then. I'm starting to think that he might not make it because they'll want JJ to live through the war.
I was surprised that next week is already the season finale. I love every episode of this show, there's hardly ever a letdown.

Next week will be the 19th episode of the 2nd season. Their first season had 25 episodes, so that makes it an average of 22 episodes over 2 season, which is the standard season for TV shows (though some shows go to 26 shows/season on occasion).
