I just ran my first 8k race (usually do 5k) and it seems like every race in Chicago is geared toward the Chicago marathon. Of course, if I keep running I'll get better times and prepare myself for longer distances.

So anyway -- have you run a marathon? Seems like a lot of people here in Chicago have (I think each year 40,000 people run it, of which I bet 30,000 are from Chicago)

I don't think I've even ran a cumulative marathon over the course of my lifetime.

I ran in my fourth marathon a couple months ago.

I ran the Marine Corps, from different mile posts to cheer on some friends ;) . There is no way I could actually run a marathon...I just get really bored with running...there isn't anything I have found that take care of it.

Ran the following:
Dallas Marathon in 1996
The Boston Marathon in 1997
Austin Marathon in 1999

26.2 miles in one big long run is quite a feat.
Incredible sense of accomplishment after you
have finished. You need at least 3-6 months of
training to build up for it.

These days I just run to stay trim.

I ran a marathon during the senior year in High School 13 years ago. Got in at 4 hours and 11 minutes. A year after I was in college and started smoking and drinking heavily. Things went downhill from there.
