Anyone else like Barry McGuire?
This guy was advertised as a Dylan clone in the mid-'60s. Frankly, although he didn't write his own music, he had a voice superior to Dylan's. Eve of Destruction, the song, is arguably as good and meaningful as anything Dylan ever recorded. The album of the same name is full of other very good folk tunes, among them Sins of a Family and Mr. Man on the Street - Act 1.
McGuire was popular for a short time and then disappeared from the limelight to become a gospel singer.

I like Barry McGuire OK, but I think you;re being a little hyperbolic in your praise of "Eve of Destruction". There are a half-dozen Dylan songs (at least) that blow it away, that have a timelessness and universality that it never had.

You may be right about there being better Dylan songs (that's why I wrote "arguably"), but I think you're indulging in a little of the hyperbole yourself when you write "...blow it away...".

I think that Eve of Destruction is a great song, and can stand up to Dylan's best. I caught McGuire performing it on a 60's tribute concert (or was it 70s....can't remember) on PBS a couple of months ago. I have always loved the song...
