. . . .probably just a rumor or April Fools joke. However the Force.net says that Star Wars III is called "The Creeping Fear".
And before everyone goes off about how lame Attack of the Clones and Phantom Menace are for names, go do some research on old movie serials and pulp 40's novels. That's EXACTLY what Star Wars is - a million dollar republic serial.
Me, I hope Lucas goes with that name, or something very much like it.

I think the title is appropriate, as it describes the overall feeling of a lot of fans about how the PT will end up in the scheme of the SW universe.

I agree that it is an appropriate 40's pulp name, but it doesn't fit this series. SW has always been an adventure pulp series and this title seems too film noir/horror to me.

Just as everybody said about the previous two titles before they saw the movies, then they saw the movies and the titles made sense.
So I will reserve my judgment for the movie. The movie, after all, is what really counts here. He could call it Star Wars: Dipass Peanut Boots and people would go and see it in droves. The title really doesn't matter at this point in the game, but I am confident the title chose will fit the movie and we will realize it once we see it.

Heh. I do think this is a decent title. All of Lucas's movie names have been jarring to hear at first, but seem to fit over time and become endearing. I know I thought Phantom Menace and Attack of Clones were off when I first heard them, but they sound irght now. Of course, it's not like Empire Strikes Back is any less goofy than these titles (I mean, just think about it). But they work...and become endearing. If the films good...that's what is most important. I'm hoping it is.

The Phantom Meance was an awful name. Did it make sense? If you loosely connect it. For the most part what made the Original Trilogy more appealing with it's names were that they were dumbed down.
In A New Hope you realize that there is a power and Luke and his rebel group were The New Hope. Empire Strikes back was exactly that.. the empire striking back. Return of the jedi was pretty clear.. A jedi returned.
Attack of the Clones was odd. Sure it made a connection but really.. It could have been called "Clone Wars" and it would have sufficed just as well.

Yes, Star Wars is also very simple. A war in the stars. simple. Once the whole series was decided to be called STAR WARS: _____, and when ANH was placed in, it made sense in a basic way.

Sadly, as excited as I was a few years ago, I think these new Episodes have really tarnished the series.
Only small kids or loyal diehards could ever think Ep 1 or 2 was a good flick.
It was only tolerable for me because it dealt with some of the same characters as the originals.
I still feel like (even after all these years) Lucas could have continued with the final three episodes.
I mean anything Harrison Ford was too old to do, a stunt double would have worked.
Who really cares about all these new characters, not many people from what I've heard.

EP3: Title Rumor Twist - UPDATED!!
Thu, Mar 25, 04 08:32:38 AM EST
In response to the title rumor story from AICN, Chuck emailed us about a connection to a 1973 film starring two of our favorite Star Wars baddies, Moff Tarkin and Count Dooku. The Creeping Flesh stars Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing as James and Emmanuel Hildern. Has George been watching old horror flicks again?
UPDATE - John Meins sent this in:
Just thought I’d let you know that a band called FiLo Radio release a new single, the Creeping Fear and are playing a gig next Thursday – April Fools day!!!! See link at BBC Online.
Looks like someone may have been playing a publicity scam on AICN.
People don't need to read. the thread from the get go was a rumor and was Known to be just that. besides the point that the last two films were not guessed prior to an official announcement of it's name.

Actually I have found that people who are casual fans and/or are not tarnished by the internet tend to like them more because they don't have a preconcieved notion about what they are supposed to be. They are more like "wow that was a cool movie". Supposed diehards will criticize it more for stupid reasons like why don't the jedi dissapear when they die

I really do love the movies, but I can be realistic about their flaws), to such a point that the prequels never had a chance of living up to them. So far, the first two have been fine films (with their own flaws, of course) . . . nowhere near as bad as some people make them out to be.

I couldn't agree with you more. When EP1 came out my friends and I were there at midnight to see it, 2 hrs later we sat a nearby Denny's trying to place what wasn't right about what we had seen. It boiled down to that, I had had 19 years to build up what the original movies were and how great they were. In my mind nothing will ever be as impressive as the first time I saw the Deathstar or Luke and Vader on Bespin.
Like you said people have "artificially raised the quaity" of the films and I believe that's were the backlash for the PT has come into play. But give me another 20 years to let the new films soak in and maybe, in my mind, they will be as great as the originals. Maybe I'll name my next child Watto.

The Phantom Menace was a cool title for a gay movie, attack of the clones was a gay title for a cool movie. Neither can touch the greatness of the originals and the 3rd one won't either. As far as I'm concerned the original movie will always be called Star Wars, not this gay "A new hope" crap.

I agree that Star Wars will "ALWAYS" be the name of the first film. Also, George Lucas needs to retire or direct something else. This is the most fun I'll have with EP 3 is trying to guess the title.
I'm sure it will be real dark, as it should be, with a PG rating.

EP3: Episode III Title Revealed?
Mon, May 10, 04 03:33:47 PM EDT
Although we're not expecting a title announcement until August or so, we've heard rumblings that BIRTH OF THE EMPIRE is the favorite of the moment. In fact, mockups of movie posters and licensed merchandise are using that working title as of this week, so we fully suspect Lucasfilm is preparing to announce the title (whatever it may be) very soon. Would you like that? Initial reaction here is positive, but we're still hesitant because another SW movie would have "of the" in the title. BotE?

I love the idea of a new Star Wars film coming out. But whenever I see new photos or hear new bits and pieces of stuff that's in the film I lose interest. It just looks more of the same to me. It looks like a bastardization of the Star Wars I grew up with. I don't hate George Lucas and don't necessarily blame him. Maybe I changed from the happy expectant kid into a cyncial adult. Or maybe the prequels just suck.
