Is Heat DTS R2 (Japan) that much better than R1?

I heard some viewers and know DVDcompare likes it, but was wondering if some others who either have the DTS Heat from Japan and R1 5.1 version or just DTS can tell me if it is that much better audio wise? Is it really worth the almost $40.00 most sites are asking for it is basically what I want to know. I do love the movie, but just wondering if the upgrade is well worth it. Thanks for the help in advance.

There is a R1 version on Heat (2-disc I think) coming out this year so I would wait till the full specs were released on that first at least.

Well, I won't say it again since I already told you once in the other thread.

However, if you don't want to spend 35-40 on a disc, then don't. The DTS is incredible....and I love it. Hell, the movie is in my top 2 all time.

Amazon.co.jp has it for 35.77 before shipping.

And for what it is worth, the DTS of Ronin UE was worth every penny!

I'm amazed that with the usual limited print run of Japanese dvds, that this film being released yeeeeeears ago is still in print...I've been looking for it for a long time, but I'm not willing to pay retail for it.

The DTS track on it is incredible, as Bill said. If its one of your favorite movies, id say go for it.

The R1 edition won't have DTS. WB doesn't do DTS any more.

This has probably been asked before but the search function never works well for me, but how does the Korean DTS fare against the Japanese DTS?

I did however find a glitch on the R2 DTS one. Look at the screen capture below and look at Deniro's head. This occured on both my dvd player and my computer dvd player. I wonder how they screwed this up with the transfer.

I can say I never noticed this on the R1 or even the R3 when I had that.

You really have to look closely. It is like a red box.

(edit from 9 months later): I was wrong...it is the sunset. See this thread for my explaination. Sorry for being a dick.

Wow, that's pretty weird. I see another partial box near the top right corner as well.

Interesting and annoying at the sametime I guess, though its very subtle., but I'd still say its the preferable option of the releases currently out.

The box starts as they pan across the parking lot....and finishes at Deniro's head. They then do a cut and it is then gone.

As far as free time....probably right.

The Korean version is a double disc version that has 2:35 and 1:85 aspect versions, and DTS. I had it before so I know.

Yah but it's useless because the DTS version is cropped. That's the point.

I guess it is time for me to plop down the dough for Heat + Ronin DTS discs. That red box is a little disturbing though...

Bill Geiger, do you know at what Time in the film that happens? I'd like to check mine.

I did have something similar happen on my R1 Tombstone DVD. I replaced it and the new one is fine. I could see no blemishes on first disc.

Flash,

Ronin is perfect!!!! Mr. Wilson, I'll check it out and post in a few minutes with times.

Okay, I noticed a few other blemishes during that scene. However, if you keep you eyes on the entire screen, it runs from 13:35 to about 14:00. Along with the box, you'll also see 2 horizonal lines to the right of Dinero (1) as well as Voight (1).

I think I'm ready to take the plunge for Heat R2. Can someone tell me if this is the disc being discussed here and if it's in stock? Thanks

That is the one! It is also available here:

However, if you are a first time customer at Amazon japan, be sure to use the 500 YEN off coupon.

Thanks Bill. My first order with amazon.jp was the Kill Bill 2 box set preorder and I had unfortunately missed your original posting of the coupon a while ago.
