I'm giddy about it. I was afraid it wouldn't turn out okay, but it looks pretty good, actually.

WOW! I don't know much about Hellboy, well I know of him from seeing the comic in stores and reading about him in WIZARD mag, and I can say that Ron looks GREAT!
I wonder when the "he looks fake" geeks will start sounding off?

Heh.
I saw the picture and thought it was one of those limited edition busts of comic book characters that they sell.
I guess that's pretty high praise.

Looks great, and the gun doesn't look nearly as bad when he's holding it as it did in another shot I saw of it by itself. I guess they can't really do a realistic gun like the one shown in the comic book, but it would be pretty cool.
Also, Abe Sapien will be pretty much 100% CGI IIRC. Someone will be playing him like Andy Sirkis did Gollum, but visually it'll be cgi.
Really hope they can get the sense of scale down. After seeing LOTR it can definitely be done, so I've got pretty high hopes.
From the IMDB they are listing Ilsa as a character (along with Rasputin who was pretty much a given), so we'll hopefully see some of the original Nazi goon squad. I'd love a Lobster Johnson cameo at the very least as well ;p

This is THE movie I'm looking forward to the most over the next 2 years. Hellboy is my favorite comic book character & Del Toro is my favorite new director. What will seperate this movie from other comic book movies is the fact tha Del Toro is a HUGE Hellboy fan (BPRD shirts in Blade 2 & Hellboy references) & he always invisioned Pearlman as hellboy. Plus the fact that Mike Mignola is on set the entire time during the making of this movie. I have complete faith that this will be a PERFECT comic book adaptation. And that picture looks, well, perfect.

The general, published order is:
Hellboy: Seed of Destruction
HB: Wake the Devil
HB: The Chained Coffin and Others
HB: The Right Hand of Doom
HB: Conqueror Worm
And then they've put out a separate BPRD TPB (Bureau of Paranormal Research and Development -- the agency that HB works for) that collects a recent miniseries as well as a previous Abe Sapien (fishboy) one-shot.
There's also a new bi-monthly anthology series featuring HB and BPRD stories by a variety of artists and writers -- very good stuff IMO. Love Eric Powell's work.
But before we get moved to book talk, I just wanted to note that it appears from the bits I've read here and there that the movie will at least incorporate some aspects of "Seed of Destruction." -- can't tell if there'll be anything from other books. At least we know there'll be lots of Nazis!

If you're interested in comics, I'd suggest picking up the TPBs. About $18/pop but very good value IMO.
