Van Halen Summer Tour a Go
1 hour, 29 minutes ago
By Jonathan Cohen
NEW YORK (Billboard) - The long-rumored Van Halen summer tour is finally getting off the ground.
The group's official Web site (http://www.van-halen.com) reports that Van Halen will play shows on dates yet to be announced in Detroit; East Rutherford, N.J.; Greensboro, N.C.; Hershey, Pa.; Kansas City, Mo.; Las Vegas; Philadelphia; St. Louis; St. Paul, Minn.; Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; and Worcester, Mass.
There has also yet to be a formal announcement as to who will fill the group's lead singer slot, although it appears Sammy Hagar (news) has won back the job. Hagar replaced original vocalist David Lee Roth (news) in 1985 and remained in Van Halen until 1996. Roth returned to the fold for a brief, disastrous stint that year to record two new songs for a greatest hits album, but did not collaborate with the band further.
Former Extreme frontman Gary Cherone took over lead vocal duties for the 1998 flop "Van Halen III" and a tour later that year, the band's most recent to date. By mutual consent, he left the band shortly afterwards. In a bizarre twist, Roth and Hagar embarked on co-headlining U.S. tour in 2002.
As a band, Van Halen is surrounded by numerous other uncertainties, from guitarist Eddie Van Halen (news)'s battle with cancer to its lack of a record deal. The group split with Warner Bros. in early 2002 after spending its entire career recording for the label.
Hagar has a handful of shows booked with his band the Waboritas into early May.

It's been very frustrating for VH fans of both eras of the band. They should forget the singer and just cut an instrumental album once and for all. VH should leave well enough alone.

It looks like they're going to become one of those aging touring bands like Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon who just grab whatever lead singer they can get ahold of and tour off aging material.

If its true, then I'll be at the Greensboro show. Saw them on the For Unlawful Carnal tour and it was smokin'

It would be great if they could get both of them together for the tour. It would be just like the tour they both did together. One comes on first, the other 2nd. Switch it up everynight so everyone's happy.
That'd be awesome.

If it doesn't work out with sammy again, "And i am glad he's back" I would love to see the band hire "Mike Tramp" former lead singer for white lion, he would have been a much better choice 6 years ago instead of "Gary Cherone"...I don't dislike gary cherone cuz i love "Extreme" he just didn't sound right in van halen...Can't wait for the concert here in "Detroit"...

Wow. This is pretty cool. I like the Hagar days and would probably watch Eddie make a sandwich let alone play a guitar. I've got a few questions though.
Does anyone know what the price for this show is going to be. Since they are a classic rock act that will probably fill up each place they are playing I'm afraid it's going to be crazy. I'd pay up to $45 for crap seats. I hope they don't ask for more.
Also, is the band entertaining live? The only clips I've seen are of the Lee Roth days. I've heard glowing reviews of the Cherone tour so I'd imagine the Hagar tour would be even better. Can anyone give me their opinion?
Thanks
