Where's the sequel to.....?

OK I thought the Planet of the Apes 2001 ending implied a sequel for sure. Here are some other movies where I thought a 2nd installment was practically a given :

A Bug's Life 2
Starship Troopers 2
X-Files 2
Spiderman 2
Hulk 2
Monsters Inc 2
Nemo 2
ID4 2
Toy Story 3 (ok not a 2nd but still would be a big money maker)

All of these movies beg for sequels and it would be relatively easy to write good sequels for them. So where are they?

It's lack in pleasing the audiance also implied no sequel to follow.

A Bug's Life 2
Pixar has a few other projects to work on before this is ever an option.

Starship Troopers 2
Direct to Video

X-Files 2
Possible

Spiderman 2
July 04

Hulk 2
Didn't do as well as universal would have hoped

Monsters Inc 2
Nemo 2
Again, give Pixar some time.

ID4 2
They are waiting for a new Mac machine to promote before making this one..

Toy Story 3
Deals fell through with disney and pixar, so this one would be some time away if ever.

Maybe not, but a movie with an open ending that makes a $360 million worldwide gross is most likely going to have a sequel. That said, the main issue with Planet of the Apes was Tim Burton not being pleased with the studio, and refusing to be tied to a sequel. It could very well still happen, however.

Mac and Me. At the end of the film, Mac says, "I'm be back" or something like that. Anyone remember that movie?

And follow suit to the POTA sequels of the past. The ending was half fast and thrown in. Can anyone really say why burton through it in? (this coming from a burton fanatic)

Yes that ending to the burton POTA was lame to say the least, one of the worst endings i have ever seen, very implausible,it made no sense, there was really no way it could happen,it looked like burton just threw it in to say wow look at this the original had a twist ending now this one does too

As much as I would love to see Goonies 2 I dont think they should ruin such a classic film.

Maybe we can get Howard the Duck Returns in the future...

ID4, for being crap, should have had a sequel. I thought it would have gotten good in another movie.

What about Thunder In Paradise 2, Brother?

I think MY COUSIN VINNY was very deserved of a sequel.
Could have helped pesci's film career which has languished since the early 90s.

Planet of the Apes was recently confirmed as a sequel. Burton said he had nothing to do with it, but Marky Mark was going to be in it.

IIRC there's a diagram on the DVD set that shows the timeline. If you can think four-dimensionally it makes perfect sense.

I was always dying for some sort of Pretty Woman sequel. Runaway Bride didn't really cut it for me.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!

Does it go on to explain why everything in Washington D.C. looks exactly the same, right down to the "APEraham Lincoln Memorial"?

Thought that was Implausible, Cheesy and Lazy all at the same time. LAME!!

I mean c'mon, if they wanna play around with timelines and such, fine, Time travel stories always get some sort of credibility buffer. But, am I supposed to believe that Ape Society would have mirrored human society in every single way? Right down to the freakin monuments and outfits and vehicles? I think that ending was Tim Burton's desperation to please the studio by providing both a twist and an easy opening to a sequel.

I've been wating for YEARS for Leonard, Part 7.

Now that Disney and Pixar are splitville, expect crappy direct-to-video sequels to Bug's Life, Nemo, etc. just as quickly as the Mouse can squeeze them out. (Pixar always had this crazy idea that a sequel had to be, y'know, good.)

The POTA Remake's ending was partially due to the twist of the original movie, but was also intended to be more in the spirit of Pierre Boulle's source novel Monkey Planet in which...

Spoiler:
...the main astronaut leaves the Monkey Planet and returns to Earth. When he gets back there, he's greeted by talking Apes in uniforms.

(I've never read the original novel, but read somewhere that's basically how it ended.)

EDIT: I did a web search for the heck of it and found that my spoiler section is not quite right. There's a pretty good synopsis of the storyline of the original Monkey Planet novel at H2G2:

Back in the day, this was supposed to happen. But Marisa Tomei was asking for too much money. I'm guessing because of her Oscar. And the project went into limbo hell. I still think they could do this. The first is a classic.
