A day after his agent announced he was close to signing with the Bengals, Warren Sapp has become a Raider. The Pro Bowl defensive tackle signed a seven-year, $36.6 million contract with Oakland on Saturday, ending his nine-year relationship with the Buccaneers. Sapp leaves the only pro team he has played for two sacks shy of the franchise record.
Crap...I was hoping he would sign with the Bengals

Okay, I am a Bucc fan... I am okay with losing Sapp, but is there anything to gain? We let Lynch go to save 4 million, but to spend on what? This is going to be a bad year for the bucs...

Jealousy nothing. There's a reason why Sapp wasn't generating a ton of interest in the free agent market.

Why would anybody be jealous of the Raiders? Warren Sapp is a fatass loudmouth whose better days are behind him.
Does anyone want to step up and say that you wish your favorite team signed Sapp to a $35 million contract?

Luckily my favorite team is very solid on the d-line and wouldn't think about doing such a thing.... I would've been very, very unhappy to see the Dolphins give him such a contract.

Shadow....I don't think it will be a bad year. The only loss I don't like is John Lynch. Great talent and one of the best hitters in the game.
Losing Sapp doesn't bother me either. He has been somewhat quiet in terms of making noise on the field so it really isn't a big loss. He should have fun in this rebuilding year(s)! rotfl
Now, if the Bucs had lost Derrick Brooks, then I would be pissed.
But hey, we got Dave Moore back! :)

Another Buc fan here...I'm not disappointed. He didn't have a great year and he was a big distraction. I started not liking him and his antics anyway. Now Lynch is another story. That guy is a leader and a cornerstone of the Buc D...bad move there.

His skills are definitely deteriorating. It was clear last year, and it's going to become clearer, as he's not getting any younger.

Just about everyone on the Bucks team last year suffered in the stat department when compared to prior years. Does that mean the whole team is washed up? Sapp had a bad year, that's all.
Al Davis has a way of squeezing more productive years out of veterans than anyone in football history. Look for him to do it with Sapp.

I didn't say he's washed up. I said his skills are deteriorating. The way he plays, at age 31, he's obviously on the downside of his career. Does he have a couple of good years in front of him? Of course. But after that, he's going to be worth less than he's getting paid, at a time where releasing him will be cap-prohibitive.

I read too much into your post and for that I apoligize. I have been a long time Raider fan and I am excited about Sapp and Washington, along with John Parella, on the Raider defencive line.
I did some research on the tearms of his contract and there is a clause that after 4 years, he has the option to retire. Most people on various Raider boards feel he will not finish out his 7 year contract. However there seems to be little doubt that he will help the Raider struggling D.

With Sapp, I think it depends on how hard he works. The rumors were that he slacked last year. If he trains hard, he can still be a force, IMO...

sapp is overrated.... i mean cmon... he is old, his sack/tackle count dropped steadily the last 5 years.. and Raiders way overpayed for him.. when they already have washington.. why?!
they should have used the money on a decent qb, rb, wr's. The run d we'll most likely be pretty good.. but that's about it.. they'll still suck otherwise.. good riddence

He brings name recognition to the Raiders and will help sell tickets. Look on it on the bright side, Raider fans. If you have a favorite player on another team he may join the Raiders when his talent begins to slip. {The preceding does not apply to Jerry Rice}

that would be true if raider fans could afford tickets... that's where the dilemma come up.

What's the deal with these older players getting really long term contracts? There's Sapp getting 7 yrs with the Raiders and Jevon Kearse signed a 8 year deal with Philadelphia. They'll be nearing they're 40's by the time the contracts are up.

The AFC playoff game in 2002. Pats vs Raiders. The one where Adam Vinatieri kicked the greatest FG in the history of the NFL.
