Xbox Live Friends Desktop Tool
Spotted this today on another forum, it's a small desktop applet that keeps you up to date on which of your XBL Friends are online at the time. A pretty early release, but it's pretty handy.

Make sure and read the download page if you do plan on grabbing it, since the author has posted some info on bugs you might encounter and how to avoid them.

It's a pretty basic program but if it saves me from having to go to XBOX.com each time I want to check my list I'll be happy.
The weird thing about it, Calico, is that the symbol next to your name is highlighted but I'm not sure why. I figured it meant you were online but then I went to XBOX.com to check my friends list and your aren't online. Not sure what's going on with that.
Edited To Add: Now the symbol is yellow. If I didn't have a wicked cold I'd feel up to reading that whole page. I'll bookmark it and read it later on.

It's definitely early release, but it works great once you get everything ready.
Basically, you have to be sure to install the latest .net framework (free download from Windows Updates site)
Then go sign into the My Xbox Live section of the Xbox.com site.
After that, you load up the applet and can close your browser.
I had problems with the mshtml.dll error he mentions on his site, but he provides a fix file that sure enough fixed it.
It looks like a green icon means the person is online, orange means they are online using the desktop applet (but not currently on LIVE) and gray is offline

I saw this a couple of days ago, but I was thinking about waiting for LIVE 3.0 instead. Not sure if I'll install or wait.
