Please help, I need advice...

I would love to buy a DVD recorder (and player) so that I can hook it up to my VCR and transfer my family home videos to disc. There are so many to choose from it makes my head spin!

Also, I need a region free player so I'm not limited to Region 1 discs like I am with my current player.

Is there a reasonably-priced machine someone can recommend that could combine both of these needs? Thank you in advance!

How much do you want to spend?

This LiteOn is tempting, but they're also coming out with a ± version very soon if that matters.

It's supposed to work very well when it doesn't overheat or break.

have you considered a TIVO card for you pc? that is if you already have a DVD burner in it. something like an all in wonder card to just plug your VCR into and capture using movie maker or something then burn it. Just an initial thought....

Thank you, I guess I would prefer less than $500. Any possibilities?
