Newest Thread to ask about Premium Membership status

so.. whats the latest, guys?
any changes to the plans for what will be offered
any new ideas to bounce off us
any idea when the new software will be ready

oh yea.. and I asked in one of the other threads that it was brought up in.. but dont think i got an answer..

does anyone have a link to any page that will list the features and improvements that will come along with the new version of vbulletin. Not just what we will be implementing with the premium membership, but improvements in the board as a whole? Im just curious.

One of the key things was the release of the next version of software for this forum.

The latest information is that this is supposed to happen this week.

We're excited to see VB 3 go gold. I'm in talks right now with my server guy on a schedule to do the upgrade (which will NOT be trivial).

We'll have to take the forum offline for a number of hours to do the upgrade so it'll probably be something that happens this weekend, or more realisticlly next weekend.

on April 1st, the forum is overrun with stupid posts

"STAR WARS DVD COLLECTION COMING OUT!!!!"
"DVDTalk is closing down!!!!"
"Randy hates melons!!!"
etc...

what better day to take some time off.. give the mods a break and kill part of that day

There might be a small delay, before going to VB 3 i am seriously researching a recommendation from one of our mods to consider the invision board software.

One of the issues... I absolutely postivitely HATE the new look of VB3.

Here's the new look:

But much worse.... Here's the thread view:

Conversly here is invision board

Ugg... that's fugly!

So when you upgrade they force you to use the new templates?

I know nothing about vB but it seems that they could allow you to upgrade to the new features and keep your old layout.

DVDFILE is using VB3 and its layout is similar to yours. It would appear you would be able to modify it to look very close to what you have now, if not exactly the same way.

I agree the default layout is terrible.

I looked and they are running VB beta 5 which does not have the big style update which is now part of VB3.

I have seen some forums 'hack' the style to look more like VB2
example: http://www.he-man.org/forums/boards/...ad.php?t=91270

But there's a lot about VB3's layout which I'm not crazy about. Also I've been reading reports that upgrading can take DAYS especially for the search index. Yep you read that right DAYS!!

The only other forum I stop at is www.oc-forums.com
They recently went to VB3, not sure if it's the beta although it says 2.2.6 so I'm not sure. They added a new color layout and put news stories and articles etc on the side of the forum listing.

But the really great thing is that there is an option in a user's CP to switch back to the old forum skin. Really great.

I think that'd be a big selling point. My suggestion is, if possible, update the top section to 1024x768 (as in moving the logo to the far left not center left and for paid members, let them have the ability to turn off the reviews and headline section. I like the reviews, appreciate the work put in composing them, but IMO people don't want to see them on every page taking up space.

Ahh that's weak. Wonder why they'd make such a big change so close to a release.

I like the look of the Invision forum over the VB3 - it looks much better and a little more simple.

I don't like the new look of VB either, but before you make the decision to move over to Invision make sure that the conversion process isn't too big of a hassle. You don't want to lose any of the posts already here (well there are a few posts I can think of getting rid of ).

And make sure you have the same control and options you have on VB.

You should be able to mod the VB3 release so it will look almost identical to the current layout.
