The Whole "Ten Minutes of Footage" Thing

I watched the ten mins. of footage for both Taking Lives and Dawn of the Dead. Not entirely sure what I think of this, but it seems like more and more movies are likely to do it.

Thoughts?

Marketing... hook the customer...
Story...hook the lister, viewer, reader...

There are some similarities...

Cheers

I think its good and bad, it might force them to edit the first 10 minutes differently (to make it punchier etc) then they would have otherwise which I don't like, but you get a better feeling for the movie than a trailer and it doesn't spoil the movie (as long as its the very first 10 minutes) for you which is good

I love the first 10 minutes of Taking Lives, and I asked the question above in the first place because I wasn't planning on seeing that one until watching the opening. So they hooked me.

But I don't know if that's always the case. Remember the online footage for Darkness Falls? I didn't see that on.

All in all, I'm not sure if watching the first 10 minutes of a movie is more likely to make me see something, or more likely to keep me from seeing something.

So far this form of marketing is working on me. I saw the first 15 minutes of super troopers and bought the dvd without even watching it in the theater. I'm going to see dawn of the dead in theater when it comes out. it gives you a better feeling of the movie.

I watched the first ten minutes of Taking Lives and then saw it this weekend. Wasn't nearly as annoying as I was suspecting to see the first 10 again. Everything looks different on the big screen.

Other thougths on this? I think it's interesting from a moviegoers' standpoint.

I think this practise is great and hope to see more of it.
