In December, both Digital Bits and MusicTap announced the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy soundtrack on hybrid CD/DVD-A for release in "first-quarter 2004." Has anyone heard any updates?

I've held off on buying these soundtracks for just such a release. This could really be a boost for the format.

First I've heard of this, but great news! Hope they do come out soon, and are well mastered.

There is supposed to be a symphony based on the trilogy score coming out this year, with some two hours (out of 12?) worth of music. Haven't heard anything in the way of it being on DVD-A either, but that seems like a good format for such a release.

Supposedly at some point, Howard Shore will be releasing all the music.

CD/DVD-A Hybrid? Is that a typo or is this something new?

hybrid is many the wrong word, but flipper could be used. it will have a cd layer on one side, flip it over, and you get the dvd-a side.

i havent heard about this release though. the flaming lips dvd-a was supposed to be the first disc that was both cd and dvd-a, but they couldnt release it in time, so they just gave out two cds.
