being a Judas Priest fan I picked up the new Iced Earth CD because Tim The Ripper Owens is thier new singer... I loved it!! I can't believe I've been a metal fan for 15 years and have never gotten into this band...

... so, Iced Earth fans... whats a good Iced Earth CD to start with? I want to get more of thier stuff. They are coming in concert here in a couple months.

Days of Purgatory might be good if your a new fan.. or Dark Saga

Tribute to the Gods... they cover Kiss, Priest, BOC, alice Cooper ect.

The Glorious Burdon is a GREAT album, Ripper really kicks on it. The Reckoning and When The Eagle cries are just like Priest songs

I'm going to see Iced Earth next month baby!

Sounds like you're in the same boat I am. I got The Glorious Burden because I loved Ripper, never really hearing much of Iced Earth before. I LOVE the CD.

I just did what I do with most bands I am just starting to get into, I buy the previous CD. In this case that is Horror Show. Not bad, but I wasn't too impressed with the previous singer.

I'm going to see them next month with Evergrey (another GREAT band). That should be good.

I personally think Horror Show followed closely by the Glorious Burdon are their hardest CD's to get into (not necessarily the worst musically- they just took more time to grow on me).

Check out Days of Purgatory and Burnt Offerings. Both are excellent CD's.

Specific songs you may want to check out: Dante's Inferno (EPIC song - perhaps my favorite metal song EVER), Travel in Stygian, Melancholy, I Died for You, Angels Hollocaust, Question of Heaven.

I'll be seeing them May 5th at HOB Orlando!

The first one I bought was Alive in Athens. I'd heard songs from it, and since it's a fairly all encompassing view of the first 2/3 of their studio work, I think it's a great place to start.

Get the 3 CD version, if you can. centurymedia.com should have it (their label is century media records).

me too!

thanks for the info everyone, I think I'll try Days of Purgatory because that one got sugested the most.

anyone have a list of the "hits" to know when I see them live, I hate seeing a band and not knowing at least half the songs.

2 things:

1) anyone know who does the female vocals on Phantom of the Opera?

2) I lent a co-worker some Iced Earth and now he's hooked. He's into Helloween, Priest, Iron Maiden....etc. and is looking for other recommendations. I've suggested Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, Andrew WK, Metal Church and a few others. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. By the way, the dude is all about clean vocals, so the Death I suggested didn't take.

Horror Show was my first Iced Earth CD. It also happens to be my only Iced Earth CD. I'll have to give it another spin or two. I have heard a lot of good things about the Ripper stuff. I've heard his new DTO album, and it rocks.

the Dark Saga

I've tried some of their other discs, but this is the only one I really enjoy. It stands on its own, but for geeks it also doubles as a tribute to Spawn.

As for a suggestion: Demons & Wizards
