Geldof thwarts 'Live Aid DVD pirate'
Too bad Geldof can't figure out how to make these available legally. Here's the story:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/3530269.stm
Live Aid rganiser Bob Geldof has led police to a suspected music pirate who is accused of selling DVDs of the 1985 charity concert over the internet.
Police arrested a man in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, in a raid last week. The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) said a 10-DVD set was on sale for £110.
BPI director of anti-piracy Dave Martin said Geldof was "really sickened" to find the DVDs being sold.
The man was arrested and bailed without charge pending further enquiries.
Geldof spotted the DVDs on sale at the end of last year and told his lawyers to alert authorities, who launched an investigation.
"But I think he felt really sickened by the fact that somebody was making money from these DVDs that should have been going to charity."
Live Aid was one of the most momentous music events in recent history, taking place in London and Philadelphia and featuring stars including U2, Queen and Madonna.
It was prompted by a global outrage at the famine in Ethiopia, and raised money to help the starving.

Congrats Detective Geldof!
Now imagine how sick you'd feel if the money actually went to charity after releasing an official set...

Cripes. I'd toyed with the idea of picking up that set off eBay, but it usually ended up going for $300 or so. I'd give real big money to get an official, comprehensive set of the show - you listening Bob?

Taped the concert off MTV but now I can't watch them as modern VCRs don't track as far as the one I used was tracked. (Can get pic or sound, but not both.) I would LOVE to pick up a set of these discs if they were offered legally.

Seriously. It was a great show (well, shows), and I'm stunned that there's no compilation of it for sale.

Not to mention that releasing it will draw additional attention to the claims that none of the proceeds/donations from the show actually made it to the people who were starving.
