Problems with Samsung T165

I just got in on a great close out deal at Best Buy for the T165 HDTV tuner. I have hooked up my DVD player through the unit to have the unit upconvert the picture to 720p on my Hitachi 36" TV. The problem I am having is that while the DVD is playing a disk small red hash marks are randomly appearing on the left hand side of the screen. If I take the player out of progressive scan mode, then they go away. So, I figured it is a cabling issue and go out and buy new Acoustic Research cables from BestBuy that say they pass 75 MHz signals with no loss. I hook it up and still have the same problem. So:

1) Is anyone else using this unit in this way?

2) If so, have you had this type of problem?

3) If so, what was the solution?

I guess the unit might be bad, but I wanted to exhaust all options before calling in the warranty.

Thanks,
P

Why can't you just turn progressive scan off?

If I understand this correctly, you are starting with a 480i signal from the disk, converting it to 480p in the dvd player, then converting to 720p in the 165. Why not just send 480i to the 165 and let it convert it to 720p?

I am trying to get the best possible picture and doing it the way I am trying to give a far superior picture (minus the small annoying hash marks) than doing it the way you are suggesting.

That's why.
