Mario Kart --- What's your Combo?

I just finished the 100 cup. I was using Mario and Koopa with the heart coach. i have all golds except for the special cup (which I only tried once) and got 3rd place. Bascially the rainbow road kicked my ass, or i would have finished 2nd.

Any way, do you guys have any tips for me as far as what combo to use (heavy-light, top speed vs acceleration, etc). What characters do you use? And is the difference between the 150 cup and the 100 cup huge?

This game is real fun. Has anyone gotten warp pipe to work?

I just use what I like for the items.

I use one of the Koopa's for constant red shells and Diddy Kong for the giant bannana's. They work great together. If you are behind you have Koopa's shellf for offense. If you are riding first you have DK's giant banana's as a great defensive item. Nothing is like a well placed banana(giant or otherwise). Plus with these two you only have the option of the smaller faster karts.

I like to use a combination of Bowser/Bowser Jr. with DK/Diddy. I love leaving giant bananas blocking the road and clearing the road ahead or behind with the Bowser shell.

Recently I've been pretty experimental. I usually go with Mario/Luigi in the red cart. As of late its been

Mario/ Yoshi - Yoshi car
Daisy / Luigi - Peach's car
Luigi / Baby Mario - Luigi's car
Toad / Baby Bowser - either red or blue racer.

Toad and Baby Bowser saw me through mirror mode on 100cc. As far as tips it just depends on you the driver. Speed can only help you so much its how you handle turns and when you drift. Believe it or not drifitng on straightaways helps a great deal. Remember to hit X repeatedly when you hit an item box, it increases your chances of getting a better item. I normally dont use heavy/light or heavy/ medium racers I like a moderate ammount of speed.

I think in the 100 the other racers are the same pairings (e.g. Mario & Luigi, Daisy & Peach, etc) except for the two you choose - their normal other pairings team up. In 150, the combos are all mixed up.
