I just finished the first three issues of Dead@17 and have to say I'm disappointed. I know everybody seems to love it, but it's far too much of a Buffy, the Vampire Slayer clone for me.

Chew,

Sorry you didn't care for D@17. For the record, I've never seen Buffy.

However, if there's room for several hundred superhero books every month, surely there's room for two girls who battle the supernatural.

Thanks for checking it out anyway :)

Wow, a comic creator responding to my post. :)

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it and plan to read issue #4. It's just I couldn't get the Buffy similarities out of my head as I read.

Wow, this is really sweet we have Josh Howard visiting the board!

I've only read Dead@17 #1 but I loved it. The story was great and the artwork is awesome. I should be getting issues 2-4 from Viper here sometime this week so I can finish the series.

Keep up the good work, Josh.

Josh, thanks for paying us a visit. I rather enjoyed the Dead @ 17 mini, and look forward to the trade version with the self-published version. As a wannabe writer, I've always wanted to see "drafts" of a published work.

I'm looking forward to the Dead@17 TPB as well; I enjoyed the series and am wondering where it goes from here in the new Blood of Saints mini in April. Sure, the mini was not without faults, but it was still easily one of the better things I've read this month.

Whoa, that's odd. I thought this was part of another thread. Weird.

Anyway, I have a column ready for publication over at paperbackreader.com, but as of right now, the site owner hasn't posted.

I thought the book was fun. It doesn't take itself too seriously and doesn't delve too deeply into anything that would ruin the pace. For me, that's fine with this one.

Since I started a tangent, I think a mod seperated things out.

For me, the reason Dead@17 is so amazing is it's really NOTHING like Buffy (which I hate). Aside from it having a young girl in it, could you explain how it's a Buffy clone? The reason I hate Buffy is b/c the writing is so annoying, & the dialogue is so empty headed & phony. Dead@17, the characters do not talk like dumb valley girls, the book is not loaded with idiotic cultural references. And Josh's sense of panel structure & sequential story telling is phenomenal for such a new talent.

Thanks Josh for posting over here, I think I'm responsible for bringing Dead@17 over to these forums & letting people know to order the book through your website.

I wasn't claiming it was a clone of Buffy from the standpoint of dialogue, just in the many story and character elements they share.

I appreciate you guys taking the time to check out the book....thanks for all the honest opinions :)

D@17 was a labor of love and certainly not without its challenges, most notably juggling both writing and art chores. I definitely learned a lot over the course of the series, hopefully Blood of Saints will be better for it.

Thanks, Sessa17, for helping spread the word. I'm glad you were able to look past certain "Buffy" similarities and appreciate what I was trying to accomplish. :D

I'm so damn_glad I picked up the first three issues (and preview) from Viper a couple of weeks ago....the first issue is now sold out everywhere.

Now if I could just find a copy of #4.

It's sold out everywhere. And my shop says it won't be getting anymore in even though I asked for it. Where can I get one?

Damn!

MidTown Comics (http://www.midtowncomics.com/eshop/searchresult.asp?crypt=HPcog?(NPcog?(WugtKF?32:;76;76(WutPcog?(WutV{rg?(WutNgxgn?&SearchCat=&CT_PARID=61&PRID=21086&CGID=78&sKey=dead+at+17&Page=) has it available. Shipping is a bit steep, so you'll have to add a few items to make it worthwhile.

Ouch. $7 for shipping. Might have to bite the bullet though. I'll just pick up some other issues.

Thanks Chew!

I definitely would but I don't see any place to post feebdack. Let me know & I will.

Great work JP, I especially like that you mentioned the book is being collected in TPB soon, that is good writing & reviewing.

No need to post feedback, unless you want to join PBR. I just wanted to see what others thought of the writing etc.

Thanks Sessa.

I'm still lacking # 4 Josh. Do you still have copies laying around? I could really use a signed copy to go with my others. :D

If you do have copies, seriously, let me know and I'll get my paypal account info to you.

Lookin' forward to the second series.

Hey everyone, paperbackreader.com just posted my interview with Josh Howard (http://www.paperbackreader.com/columns/20q/20q_index00.htm), creator of Dead @ 17.

They also posted my review of the first issue. The link can be found on the home page (http://www.paperbackreader.com/index.htm).

I'd love to hear what everyone thinks about the interview and about the book once you read it.

I thought it was a really great interview - the first mini was good, but I didn't think it was exceptional, but the review has actually got me pumped to check out the sequel.
