finally gonna clear some desk space and get an lcd. wondering if there were any deals on 17" or higher. it'll be used for pretty much everything from games to internet to movies, so trying to get a pretty decent one, without totally breaking the bank...any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm also in the market, so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. I'm hoping to get something with a decent response time for under $350. The closest I've found so far is this one for $349 after rebate. (http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=298119)
Edit: Rebate ends tomorrow.

well, response time is only one of the important factors you should consider. Resolution, Brightness, Contrast Ratio, and DVI availability. Also when you say " descent reponse time" wat number did you have in mind? 25ms? 16ms?

Wow, I would probably jump in the Office Max deal, except I can't find a thing about "Etronix" on the net.

You want to try Costco. I bought a 17" Princeton LCD for $359 about 6 months ago. I am vey impressed with it. It's only analog but its great for gaming if you game.

http://www.tomshardware.com/ to help you pick the right one. I know you don't want to break the bank, but IMO getting the best LCD screen possible is more important than video cards, ram, or any other computer component.

Don't know how interested you are in purchasing a computer along with your LCD monitor, but a co-worker just bought a Dell along with a 17" Ultrasharp (I've got the 19" and think it is *fantastic*) for a total of $550 (2.8 GHz 4600 model). Dell is always having great deals on PC and bundling an LCD monitor for cheap along with it.

Where is a good place for LCD reviews? I was thinking about getting this one at CompUSA, but I'd like to know how it rated.
Well I took the plunge and bought the one linked above at CompUSA, even though I couldn't find a single review on it. I'm sure I could have saved some cash ordering online, but my CRT was shot and very difficult to use, so to me that justified spending the extra cash.
It has a rebate of $100 and ends up being $279 + tax & shipping AR
Looks ok specs wise, I know cnet editors didnt care for it in their review but read all the newegg reviews as well as the cnet USER reviews saying they are enjoying their 19 inch princetons...
I would order one up if I had the $$ right now but I am broke at the moment...

I noticed this on the Newegg.com site:
Dead Pixels Policy: Replacement or Refund for 8 or more DEAD PIXELS ONLY!
On average, how many LCDs are shipped with dead pixels and how many should I expect? This is the first time I've seen this policy plainly listed. Any idea how the other major e-tailers handle dead pixels?

OPPS dummy me, was using the search function for lcd and stumbled across the thread, replied on that princeton thinking it may help but just realized yeah it was a year ago, still decent deal on that unit if someone is looking to get into a 19 inch for under $300 after rebate...
Was able to get the wife to let me order one from newegg last night, they rock, already got fedex confirm ## via email today should be here Friday...
Even without the rebate it appears to be within the pricerange of similar models with similar specs, if the rebate comes thru (I certify mail it and copy everything and follow instructions so hopefully no problems) then even more of a bonus, either way will be nice to get this 80lb 21 inch crt off my desk and go with a lcd.
Hope the reply helps someone else who maybe looking...
