I've heard mention that Anchor Bay lost the rights to Aguirre, the Wrath of God, Fitzcarraldo, etc. - which was the main reason the rereleased the box set. Does anyone know anything about this and who the rights went to? The aforementioned titles are the only two i'm really interested in owning, but i'm wondering if I can expect Criterion to handle these next....and therefore if I should just wait - i'm a patient man :)

What about the other herzog titles they own which aren't in the boxset?

Anchor Bay mentioned that another Herzog boxset (not Herzog?Kinski set) will be out sometime in 2004... so I believe they'll still have the rights to those particular films.

As for the films in the Herzog/Kinski boxset - that's another issue.

Where'd you hear this? I hope it's true becuase I still need to pick up their non-Kinski titles.

It's been a while, so I can't provide you with a link... but I recall someone at AB responding to an e-mail asking whether we'd see another Herzog boxset with the remaining titles. The answer was yes and probably in the first half of 2004.

Haven't heard anything about it since.

Hope it's true.

Okay, this will probably garner me scorn and ridicule, but...

I've never seen a Herzog film. Is there one in particular that I should start with?

Aguirre or Kasper Hauser. They are probably his two best films. Fitzcarraldo is perhaps his most accessible film for American audiences.

Woyzeck is a great little film, very underrated.
