I bought the Criterion of Life of Brian and noticed that the picture was scratchy and there were a lot of visual flaws during the film. Has anyone else had these problems or no, because i thought Criterion had the best transfers available. Thanks.

I agree with you that the picture quality of Criterion's Life of Brian is rather poor. A bit of a disappointment for me, as well. Although I have 15 Criterion DVDs (making up 10% of my DVD library), I don't go around bowing and worshiping the Criterion label like so many other natives on this island; that's a strange phenomenon in this forum. I judge each DVD issue individually, sometimes Criterion turns up good films and/or good transfers and sometimes they don't, just like any other company.

Their Time Bandits was a pretty shoddy affair, as well. The new AB Divimax Time Bandits SE looks much better. With any luck, Life of Brian will get the Divimax treatment (wouldn't hold your breath, though).

Monty Python's first couple of films as well as their tv show were produced on a small budget and not stored very efficiently. Have you watched any of the Flying Circus DVDs? They're no better. I don't really think you could do much better for Life of Brian. I'm not distracted at all whenever I watch it. That's just how Monty Python looks.
