I thought he did a decent job on the Braveheart commentary, and would like to know if people think he'll do an audio commentary for this film, that looks amazing. Also, any chance the Criterion might do this one?
I honestly think this will get some nods come time for the Academy Awards for something. I have already heard the music, and its absolutely amazing.

I guess all we can do is hope for now. Can't wait to see it.
I wouldn't expect criterion to do this one but I'm not quite sure who will. I'm pretty sure Newmarket doesn't distribute video.

Considering the bad job he did on the Braveheart commentary, I hope he would make up for that with this movie. I doubt Criterion could touch this one with a 10 foot pole based on the buzz and potential earnings this movie is generating...

I think he was awful on Braveheart, definately one of my more dissappointing commentary experiences. But I'm sure he'll do one here, and I'd also like to hear perhaps a theologian or some measure of reliegous roundtable to handle any potential controversies in the film.

Isn't it a little pre-mature to be speculating about a commentary track? I mean, the movie hasn't even been released theatrically yet!
I doubt Criterion will get this.
But, from what I've seen in the trailer, I wouldn't be suprised if it picked up at least a cinematography nomination. Music...possibly. Who wrote the score for it?

According to imdb.com:
Cinematography by Caleb Deschanel
Original Music by John Debney

Criterion wont get this. They don't have the money to get this, and if they did, I would much rather they spend it on films that deserve the treatment (Note, I'm not saying Passions is bad, I'm just saying the number of films that deserve a good criterion treatment is far greater).
Good to see you again dalvin... it's been a while....

My question is would an "uncut" version so to speak be available on the dvd

I'm hoping for:
Ability to see the original concept of the film (no subtitles)
Audio Commentary by Gibson, the main cast, and some crew members.
Documentary of the making-of the film. (It's obvious that he's had crews filming behind-the-scenes)
Documentary that shows the similarities and differences of Gibson's movie with the Biblical accounts
Documentary on the controversy that surrounded the film's release
Any deleted scenes or material that was edited for controversial reasons (the "Blood on our hands" subtitle, for example)
Trailers
Hopefully we'll get at least a trailer and a documentary on something.

God wants to get in on the commentary action as well, but will only do so if the Holy Ghost joins in. Unfortunately, the Holy Ghost is currently holding out due to his scenes being significantly cut.

I hope not, Gibson was so droll (and sleep-inducing) on the 'Braveheart' DVD, what a disappointment.

This film isn't supposed to be an "entertaining", time passing film. I doubt he will do an audio commentary for this. And on the slim chance he does, I dont think it will be entertaining either, more of a descriptive commentary.

My initial thoughts are to think that he will. Since this movie is as much a passion for Mel as it is as described by the title of the film.

I believe Jesus got dropped from the slate, as he arrived at the recording a little tipsy after drinking some water, and started bragging about how big his DVD collection is, even though it's all padded with Brentwood and Madacy.
They will keep some audio snippets, like where Jesus points out that, as a baby, fullscreen releases made him cry.

I'm positive that Gibson will do a commentary for it. This movie is too important to him not to do one.
And no, I seriously doubt that Criterion will release this one.

I also didnt like the braveheart one... he only talked about 30% of the movie or something, way too boring. Hopefully we dont get the same thing on this film which I look forward to seeing in a few days.

It has nothing to do with subject matter. Criterion has done much more controversial than this (hello, Salo!). They won't do this one on DVD for the simple reason that they won't have access to the rights.

exactly. Not to mention that I would much rather have criterion spend the cash that it would cost to even think about getting this title and put it to better use picking up films that still have no studios to go through to be released.

I'm hoping Newmarket decides to do a 2-Disc Set with:
- DD 5.1/DTS
- Isolated Score
- Mel Gibson/Jim Caviezel Commentary
- Various Documentaries and Featurettes on the Film, the Crucifixion, and the Controversy
- Featurettes on the Use of Aramaic, Sets, Makeup, and Costumes
- Mel Gibson Interviews
- Deleted Scenes
- Photo Galleries
- Passages from the New Testament
- Trailers

Sounds perfect Redux! Also an option to turn the subtitles on/off and a gallery of pics and marketing images would be cool. Add in the official poster artwork for the cover and we're set!

Mel's commentary will be on the disc. It will just be hard to find.
In the main menu, go to the "languages" screen... then select "Speaking in Tongues." (It's right underneath "Yiddish.")
Also be sure to check out the "audition tapes" Easter (er, resurrection) egg:
I head Cavaziel is going to do commentary 'In character'. Kind of like 'Spinal Tap'.

I hear that, included in the DVD's Special Features section, they're going to feature an outtake where Cavaziel walks into the local Days Inn (while on location in full costume and make-up), shows them three nails, and asks them to put him up for the night.

I saw "The Passion" last night (23rd February)
Go read my post in the movie forum on this subject.
It was a GREAT movie!
Its amazing how much Jesus loves us to give his life for us! That is the overwhelming message I've had in my head since I seen it.
There is a discusion starting over in the movie forum.

No freakin way. That would mean player generated subtitles. Imagine how bad those would look on this movie. Subtitles needed to be on the print, for the best overall look.
