Pretty cool so far. There are ALOT of graphical issues with Direct3d and OpenGL modes with a Radeon 9600, hope they get worked out for the final release. It might also have something to do with my pre beta cat. drivers, though. I will try it out later on a R9700, hopefully it runs fine on it.

The beginning to Assault mode
Some gameplay from Assault mode
Just a little bragging rights (you know which one i am)
Nice message when you run over someone with a vehicle
1 more vehicle message when you run someone down like a dog
hope these help a bit creaturex

The full game is huge though, something like 5GB of data.

I gave it a shot yesterday. I've never played any Unreal game before so it was all new to me. I didn't like it. All graphics and little gameplay. Everyone moves so fast its hard to really target people accurately. So all anyone does is jump around like a crazy man since they know it increases the difficulty of hitting them. The result is that its exceedingly difficult to hit anyone from afar (plus on most weapons you can see them coming and you can move so fast that its easy to just get out of the way). So you end up with fairly close-quarters combat with people jumping around like mad.
I tried the Onslaught mode too but failed to really see what was exciting about it.
The whole game is just too chaotic for me and lacks any real skill or strategy. If they slowed player movement down significantly then it would be better. But then you have the problem of huge wide-open areas with nothing to hide behind. I guess I just prefer more tactical FPS games than hyperactive ones.

I am a UT addict from way back. UT 2k3 left me feeling blah, if I wanted to play Quake I'd just fire it up. DLing this now. Since I also play Tribes2, I may or may not like it. I'll let you know.

i was pretty good at UT. yeah, i didn't get too much into UT2k3 - some weapons were really weak, imo.
just tried it out and it looks like 2k3... i'll try it out some more.

Just played a bit. Looks just like UT2k3, but the actual gameplay seems a bit better. I dug the Assault game. Will continue to give this a look.

The original Unreal was a good, classic multiplayer experience with some fresh eye candy. It was mainly geared toward twitch action: you get to the point where you can dodge a flak shell or a missile. The alt-fire weaponry was a great addition, the sniper rifle was a thing of beauty, and the levels were cleverly designed.
Unreal Tournament ratcheted up the graphics and added incredible teamplay support. Capture the Flag, team-bot commands, and the assault modes made this game an incredible experience. Not much new in the area of weaponry, but it didn't ened it.
Unreal Tournament 2003 was a huge step backward. The levels are unplayable, compared to the previous versions. They feel overdesigned, eye candy with no playable substance. And the beloved sniper rifle became a lightning gun? Add the increasingly cartoonish feel and the ridiculous power-up scheme, and you have a terrific disappointment.
I haven't tried Unreal Tournament 2004 yet, but it doesn't look inspiring. It looks like Tribes. Tribes and Tribes2 are awesome games with a very different visual style and feel - it's all maneuverability and team support; UT-style deathmatching is detrimental - so this is an odd move. If I want Tribes gameplay, I'll play Tribes.
