While this episode didn't do much for me, next week's episode appears to be amusing as hell:

Spoiler:
Angel is turned into a Sesame Street character, it would seem.

Pretty good episode. Little bit of plot development which is always good, mostly a stand alone though. Insight to how the Initiative came to be was pretty cool. And the preview for next weeks episode was hilarious. Can't wait for that one.

Next week's Angel is proof just how much of a mess this entire season has been. A puppet Angel, now why would we want to see that? Nobody sure as hell wanted to see 'Greg the Bunny' on FOX.

So were they hinting that Gunn has lost his magical lawyer powers? I suppose that is an effect of being out of touch with the senior partners.

I really liked the character of Lawson (in the flashbacks.)

What exactly was his "ace in the hole"? If Angel had just staked him in the first place, couldn't Angel have just eventually walked out and found his friends standing there and rescue them?

yeah I noticed that too.. it's like someone forgot to write in the normal ".....and if I push this button!!" sort of thing as there always seems to be in that situation.

over all I liked this ep a lot.. the Nosferatu vampire is a nice touch and great to at least some other location! As of late the show has seemed to be "Angel: The Vampire in You Office Building" being he like almost never goes anywhere. The fights are at the office, the outcome is in the office, the bad guys come to him looking for a fight........in the office

he is the Vampire Dilbert now or something.. Don't get me wrong, still like the show but well ya know...

Angel turned someone into a vampire and then that souless vampire did a lot of evil deeds. I wonder why Angel didn't kill him after the submarine got to surface safely. I know he had to keep the guy alive because only he has the skill to navigate submarine to the surface. But once the crews are all saved, can't Angel kill him so he can't do any damage to the innocent as a vampire?

I agree this episode was rather bland for me. While it was cool to see the beginning of the Initiative and the forshadowing to the final episode of season 3 it just seems this was thrown in here. This would have worked better earlier in the season. Its funny now we are getting a puppet episode next ween UGH! After watching a few episodes from season 3 on dvd wow i forgot just how dark this show used to be man what a difference.

Could you guys keep the discussion of next week's episode in spoiler tags? Some of us avoid watching that stuff.

Good episode; fun and different. Neat origin of the Initiative.
Rasputin and Nosferatu were cool, but brief app. that didn't make much sense.

I like how Gunn's lawyer knowledge tripped up. Maybe, since he took that power and no will do anything to get it back, maybe a turn to the dark side?

Wonder why no mention of Cordy's death?

Seems like Lindsay and Eve are still in the picture....

Next week, seems really fun, but to our continuity-heavy friends, they might be turned off. But Spike wrestling around w/ a puppet Angel seems classic, though...

This is the first time I have ever watched Angel, and in one of the flashback scenes, they mentioned something about how angel was like captain america. Captain America was not around durning WWII. That comic didn't start until 1954. Are there often mistakes in their scripts? I quit watching after that. Not because I am picky about such things, but because I had Star Trek Enterprise taped. That show is actually starting to get good now!

So were they trying to say that the guy that Angel vamped had enough of a soul that he couldn't enjoy killing but not enough of one to be like Angel? In one scene Angel said that the soul didn't transfer but a few minutes later the guy said he spent the last 60 years not enjoying what he was doing.

Perhaps Lawson had a bit of residual soul from being sired by Angel (with soul), so his vampiric hunger wasn't without a nagging sense of morality, so he was a 'tweener vamp.

I thought it was more the fact that all his life he needed a purpose for something, and since you keep your personality traits as a vampire he didn't find any joy in killing without a purpose. He didn't derive pleasure just from the simple of act of torture and death unlike Angelus.
