After a long hiatus from any videogames, I've finally started playing GTA:VC a bit, and I think I'm stuck. The last mission I successfully completed (months ago) was called something like Boomshine Saigon. According to my map, Vince should be at my mansion to give me my next mission, but I've run around the entire place, and he's nowhere. He should be standing on the porch of the mansion.

Did you ever get to the credit sequence? I know I didn't complete the Boomshine mission until well after I had seen the end credit sequence. I don't remember a character called Vince... are you confusing the V with "Vercetti"? The V remains on the mansion, IIRC, even after the missions there have been completed.

At some point you have to aquire at least 4-5 businesses and get them running in order to advance the plot. Go for the strip joint, boat dock, taxi service, and porn studio.

I dunno -- haven't played for awhile since I got kinda stuck. I own the movie studio (not completed), strip joint, taxi service, car lot, my house (duh), boat ramp (not completed), and a couple others. However, I'm kinda stuck on those missions -- dropping fliers (stupid plane), ice cream factory (not completed), the boat race (may have beat one, I can't remember), and I haven't done the print shop (may own, can't remember offhand) or nightclub yet.
Even so, I haven't had a chance to advance the story at all. Am I short one or what? I figured you just had to own a few of them and be getting cash from them for the next sequence to start (from gamefaqs).
Kinda frustrating. I'm thinking I need to beat the pizza delivery to get the extra life.

Yes, the "V" on your map just marks the Vercetti Estate. The "Vince" you are talking about is probably "Lance Vance"
