Anyeone get the new Courtney Love CD?

I got it at best Buy for 9.99 and listened to the first 4 songs on teh way home and I must say I am liking it so far. I've always been a fan of her from her Hole days. I'll update when i finish the cd.

i'd be more interested in it if all the reviews didn't say that it was pretty shoddy.... but please, post an update when you've taken it all in!

I listened to a few more songs on my way to dinner last night and its not that bad. You can tell she was high on no telling what when she recorded it because of the way she will slur words together or cut words off real quick. It's not grammy material but I don't feel like I got ripped off.

I listened to it...I mean it's alright.
Mono is the closest thing that is good, but that's not much either.
The album is too polished, not as much as Celebrity Skin, but still overproduced. And she does say "yeah" too much, taking cues from Rob Zombie.

I think her strength is in dry and stripped aka Live Through This.
I mean I know she's not Hole, but might as well be.
Maybe her second solo album will be what I want.

Is it acoustic or full band? Are there some rockin' songs on it? Or a bunch of ballads?

What happened to Hole?

It's a full band, I mean basically it sounds like Hole.
Most of the songs are "rockin", maybe 2 or 3 ballads, can't remember for sure. It is an agressive album for the most part.

Melissa Auf Der Maur quit to play with Smashing Pumpkins and from there Hole went downhill as far as being a group.

OMG! Anyone hear her on Howard Stern this morning? What a train wreck! It'd be nice for her to get the help she needs, but she just doesn't want to listen!

She's going to be on again tomorrow (or so she says).

Scroll down for the recap. It was a whirlwind rollercoaster ride. My head is still reeling!

There was ALOT more that went on that's reported in that link. She hung up on him once. Then called back. Was on and off the air about 5 times. She wouldn't hang up the phone after talking to Stuttering John until he put her back on the air and heard Howard say "I love you". Talk about screaming for attention/affection!

I've had it for a week (and am bias cuz i liked Hole) and I think it's one of the better albums i've heard in a while.

the only flaws on it are "Zepelin Song" and the fact that her voice on the parts without much instrumentation is atrocious.

She has completely screwed her throat up.

Other than that, it rocks hard, has some great ballads and is extremely honest.

It is an arrogant album full of trashy cliches but if you liked Hole then I don't see how you wouldn't like this.

The two reviews I've read are both negative. One is from Rolling Stone (the mag that gave Mick Jagger's solo album 5 stars) and I forget the other. EW was basically a positve review.

I disagree with them. Yes, she's easy to hate but she comes through in a big way on this record.

It may be overproduced with some pop superstar engineers, but the songs are catchy (partially because Linda Perry cowrote 80% of them) and it rocks, for lack of a better word.

My favorite song is the nearly 6-minute "Sunset Strip" which is part ballad and then turns it up when she talks about all the pills she needs (which is probably true; she's a wreck all over this album).

That's just my opinion though.

It's available via Rhapsody, so I'll give it a listen. I'll buy the disc if I like it.

I just finished the album today and your post pretty much what I would have said after listening to the whole thing.

I agree too.

A few other points:

The lyrics are really weak! I could've written better lyrics than that! Every single song mentions "death" or "life" (in a fatalistic way). You can tell she's screaming for attention. All's not well in the CL world!

Anyone notice that one song was a direct ripoff of "Smells Like Teen Spirit"? Same bass line. Another song ripped off an Urge Overkill riff, note for note. ("Sister Havana"?)

Good album though.
