Lost in Translation DVD case

What are y'all's thoughts on the DVD case for Lost In Translation? Took me a couple of minutes to figure out the little tabs.

I don't like them. I don't see much of a point.

Orange County has that as well. It works for me.

The fact that there is no insert, however......

The Canadian version just uses a regular Amaray case.

How is the U.S. version different?

I remember reading about some other DVD cases that had them on this forum awhile back, but I never got any of the DVDs that had them. This would be my first. It's kinda like a lock for the DVD, where you have to open to tabs first, and then you can open the case (like a normal Amaray) to get to the DVD. I also don't see the point, and while it's not the end of the world, I'm sure I'll forget they're there and try to open it a couple times before remembering.

Just out of curiosity, why do some of you like this?

I dont really mind them...though every time i try to open it i forget they're there....the only point i can think of is to try to prevent theft, rather than use the security tape on most other dvds.

My copy (from Amazon) is minus "tabs" as well, but I am certainly familiar with them (Orange County, The Bourne Identity, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days), and I don't like them.

I'm in the same boat as Brizz. Mine was regular ol' run-o-the-mill amaray. Nothing special about it. Though no insert other then a silly beer ad.

This has been discussed a few times. They seem to be specific to Walmart. I have it on the Scorpion King.

Mine from Amzon also has no tabs. However my The Bourne Identity from Waly World had them and I cut them off with a razor as soon as I got home. I like to open my DVDs with one hand.

If these are specific to Wal-Mart, then my store (Best Buy) got all of their widescreen DVDs. And I mean all of them. There are no widescreen versions of this at Wal-Mart, you dig?

I bought mine at Costco and it has no tabs. My Blue Crush DVD has the tabs and I bought it from Wal-Mart. But that's the only DVD I have that has tabs.

By the way, my Lost In Translation DVD HAS an insert, but it's a partial advertisement for Kirin Beer. But, hey...an insert is an insert, right?

I wouldn't count that as an insert.

It doesn't have any sort of chapter listings or anything. it's a simple "win a trip to tokyo" beer contest.

I'm not one to normally bitch about inserts.. infact, I usually make fun of those who do.. But an (partial) insert.. this is not!

I've never seen one of those "tabbed" cases - my Bourne Identity (and every other title mentioned) just came in a regular Amaray, but then again, I don't shop at Walmart very much.

I got mine at Amoeba records in Los Angeles (about as far as you can get from WalMart in terms of the type of store), and it had those tabs. I think they're neat. I'm sure they'll snap off.

No Wal-Mart in sight around NYC...
So am I the only one who got the funky Lost In Translation case from Amazon?
This is the first time I've seen this case. I felt so dumb seeing the little "Open-->" clips after I spent 5 minutes trying to open the damn thing.

I felt like such a boob for not knowing how to open the friggin' thing! LOL!! I seriously thought for a moment that it was a security latch that needed assistance from FYE officials--I think after spotting the word "open" with the arrows pointing in the direction where you pull the tabs away was when it hit me.
