Columbia/Tristar recalls GIGLI?

Just got this email from my friend. Not sure what the source of this article is.

COLUMBIA/TRISTAR ISSUES A RECALL FOR GIGLI DVD

By Molly Mawk

Taking a cue from Disney and their ED WOOD DVD recall, Columbia/Tristar has sent out a memo to all stores ordering them to send back their remaining stock of the DVD for the Ben Affleck/J Lo disaster GIGLI.

The memo says all DVDs must be returned by the end of the month, but makes no reference to the exact cause for the recall. A company spokesman said that Columbia/Tristar is looking for a better date to release the DVD, hoping that the film will nab all the major Razzie Awards, which would then be publicized on newly created cover art.

"Academy Awards or Razzies...most people don't know the difference," said the spokesman. "To them an award is an award, and the more awards a film wins, the better it is perceived to be."

However another source at Columbia/Tristar, speaking only on the condition of complete anonymity, suggested that the company is initiating the recall in hopes that it will increase sales by turning the DVD into a much sought-after "collector's item."

"Nobody's buying the DVD anyway, so if all the stores send them back to us, we lose nothing," the source said. "But if we sell one-tenth as many copies as ED WOOD has...hell, we just might break even on this turkey."

THey should've recalled the theatrical prints before it hit the theatres.

It would've spared the hundereds of people who saw it in the theatres alot of agony.

Recalled? I must buy Gigli at any price. I never had any intention of owning Gigli before, but now that I know that it's being recalled, I have to have it. Cost be damned!

I am so sick and tired of people trying to make a profit off of a good movie that probably won't be released again anytime soon. Give some other people a chance to buy it now at a regular price from the wal-mart bargain bin instead of making the only way to secure one is to find a Criterion Salo dvd to trade with.

The rights are being sold to Criterion. I'm holding off on this one, hoping for a sweet 2 disc special edition w/ Ben & Jen commentary. Can't wait

You could threaten to send one to people unless they pay you to keep it...

is that a promise or a threat? cause even if they were to burn all the remaining copies, I don't think anyone would miss this film in the slightest.
