What discs have been pulled? Any ever re-released?

I was just wondering how many discs have been pulled for various reasons, and if any of them were ever re-released.

The ones I know of are:

Beavis & Butthead box set -> still no sign of a re-release.

Ed Wood SE -> just now pulled.

Eerie Indiana Season Set -> pulled, no re-release yet.

Little Shop of Horrors -> alternate ending, was this pulled or just changed? Released without the alternate ending.

Seven Samurai CC -> restoration demo, changed instead of pulled.

Swamp Thing -> had the international cut, no re-release of either cut.

I believe Devils Advocate was pulled and later re-released.

Sleepaway Camp: Survival Kit (Box Set)

I'm sure everyone is aware of this, but the first shipment of the box sets with the red cross were later recalled. then re-released without the cross.

I can't think of anything that came this close to release before being pulled other than that Enimem thing recently (was it the Hip Hop Witch?) and Duel.

I can think of something long delayed though, like Legend, which finally came out

Clownhouse, the Victor Salva film. Only a few made it to the shelves and they are scarce...

The Swamp Thing one bothers me the most. Why didnt they just release an updated cover to state it was the Unrated Version? Seems like it wouldve been cheaper than to just waste all those discs.....

Probably because they didn't own the rights to release it in the first place. So they are probably trying to find the US print or secure the international rights for domestic release...

The Gigli post was a joke, although I always thought that if the made the disc Out of Print, maybe it will sell.

As for disc being pulled, I think Salo was taken after a month because of rights issues.

This website says all the titles that have been canceled, recalled, postponed or reschedule.

When MGM released their SE of This Is Spinal Tap they had to do a recall due to a subtitle issue. They promptly released replacements, so it didn't turn into a huge fiasco like the current Ed Wood situation.

There's a difference between a disc being pulled/recalled and simply going out of print. Thousands of discs have gone OOP, but only a few have been "pulled".

98% of all the James Bond movies were pulled last year. I was in the middle of buying them all where I would buy one a bout everyday.. I went into best the day after I bought Dr. No and all Bond movies had been pulled from the shelves. They still havent re-released them as singles yet just in the box sets.. I hope they bring the singles back so I can complete my dvd set.

The James Bond movies went out-of-print but were never "pulled" or recalled. What likely happened is that someone realized that they were getting 2x retail on eBay, and bought up the stock in the store you were going to...

Don't forget what I think was the first pulled DVD back in '97 when DVD first hit the shelves. 1986's "Little Shop of Horrors" was out for about a week but the producer of the film, David Geffen, had it pulled because a bonus feature included the original ending... the one where Audrey II eats Audrey and Seymour and then takes over the world.

We didn't see a re-release of that movie on DVD until a year or so ago... sans the original ending.

No Escape

In a round-about way, Back to the Future should count as a "quiet" recall and re-release.

The original release of I Know What You Did Last Summer was pulled due to legal actions by Dimension based on a line in the trailer. "From the creators of SCREAM" Obviously Columbia, who put out I Know..., didn't release Scream and Dimension took offence.

Also the first release of Men In Black was pulled in the same manner of Ed Wood. I don't remember the official reason

Yes, in keeping with this, it's worth point out...

I believe Devils Advocate was pulled and later re-released.
It was never actually pulled; they did a limited run of the theatrical version, and then had to use computer graphics to fix something due to a copyright violation. The IMDb will explain more if you're interested.

Little Shop of Horrors -> alternate ending, was this pulled or just changed? Released without the alternate ending.
It was pulled, yes. Generally, they pull them as soon as the legal trouble happens and release the new version when it's done, they usually aren't allowed to sell things they don't have the rights to sell until such time as they fix the discs and then get them to the stores.

**Neither 'Eerie, Indiana' nor 'Duel' were "pulled", nor 'Ed Wood' for that matter, because all of these recalls happened before the discs were officially released. There are discs floating around, but they were "pulled" before the release date; I think the distinction should be made.

For every dick that is pulled, there are thousands of others that simply go OOP.

I didn't know that. Why? Is there any difference besides the cross?

I have that. Is it worth anything?, cause it pretty much sucks and I wouldn't mind getting rid of it.

No difference besides the cross.

Why was it changed? Because, contrary to what most people think, that red cross is not a 'generic' symbol. It's actually owned by the Red Cross. And they objected to its use in this case (for obvious reasons ).
