Doesn't look like that 5-14 record is going to get better anytime soon. Firing Jarvis sure helped them out. -rolleyes-

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=1728226 looks like they're all innocent and the allegations were bogus. Way to jump to conclusions. -rolleyes-

They're still suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules. I didn't jump to conclusions. I said "allegations."

Little more complicated that that. One's expelled. Two are suspended permanently, and two others suspended and one more will be disciplined.

Associated Press

PITTSBURGH -- St. John's expelled one basketball player and permanently suspended two others Thursday night, hours after a woman was arrested for falsely claiming she was raped by several players she met at a strip club.

After the woman was charged, St. John's said it had expelled senior Grady Reynolds, who was arrested before last season on charges he pushed a female student against a wall.

University athletics spokesman Dominic Scianna said the school also permanently suspended leading scorer Elijah Ingram, a sophomore, and senior Abraham Keita, pending expulsion hearings.

Two other players, freshman Lamont Hamilton and senior Mohammed Diakite, were also suspended, and another player, freshman Tyler Jones, would be disciplined, the school said. The players were not immediately available for comment.

St. John's officials did not describe how the players violated team rules.

Sherri Ann Urbanek-Bach, 38, of Astoria, N.Y., was charged Thursday night with fictitious reports, attempted extortion and prostitution, hours after she claimed she was raped in a hotel by players she met in a strip club following the Red Storm's 71-51 loss to Pittsburgh on Wednesday night, Pittsburgh police said.

A telephone listing under Urbanek-Bach's name in New York was disconnected and she could not immediately be reached for comment.

According to police, several players went to a club after the game Wednesday night. The woman told police she met the players around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, then went with them to a hotel in downtown Pittsburgh, where she told police she was raped.

Police did not identify the players accused but said they were interviewed and released.

St. John's is 5-14. Interim coach Kevin Clark replaced Mike Jarvis on Dec. 19.

St. John's next plays Boston College at home Sunday afternoon.

Woman felt ‘violated’ when players refused to pay for sex
Affidavit says she filed false rape report when they didn’t giver her $1,000

Friday, February 06, 2004

By Jonathan D. Silver, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

A woman said she felt “violated” when basketball players at St. John’s University refused to pay her $1,000 for having sex with them, according to a statement she reportedly gave police. That’s why Sherri Ann Urbanic-Bach decided to tell police she was raped when she had actually had consensual sex with the men, according to an affidavit filed to support charges against her.

The affidavit was made public today just after Urbanic-Bach, whom police have also identified as Urbanek-Bach, appeared at an arraignment in Pittsburgh City Court this morning.

She is charged with one count each of prostitution, criminal attempt to commit theft by extortion and filing a false police report.

Magistrate Lou Coles today set her bond at 10 percent of $20,000, and she was returned to the Allegheny County Jail.

Urbanic-Bach, 38, a laid-off flight attendant from the Queens section of New York City, reportedly met the basketball players in a McKees Rocks strip club late Wednesday and went back to their Downtown hotel with them.

According to the affidavit, the woman reported the rape by five players at 4:15 a.m. yesterday. But when police interviewed her again at 6:30 p.m., she said she had lied about being raped and had willingly had sex with several players but did not know how many.

She said she had agreed to have sex with the men for $1,000, the document states. When they refused to pay, she said she felt violated and told them she would have them arrested.

None of the players has been charged with criminal offenses, but some have been disciplined by the university.

St. John’s was in town for a game against the University of Pittsburgh.
