Another one bites the dust..aka..How to remake the single best sequel.

Universal to Remake 'Bride of Frankenstein'!

Variety reports that Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, the team behind American Splendor, are in negotiations to rewrite and direct a remake of Bride of Frankenstein for Universal Pictures, produced by Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer. Berman and Pulcini join the project with a mandate to re-imagine the 1935 U horror pic, originally helmed by James Whale starring Boris Karloff and Elsa Lanchester in the title role. Berman and Pulcini would start from scratch and script a character-driven horror pic more akin to Rosemary's Baby. Their concept for "Bride" is set in contemporary Gotham, centered on a young woman attending college. After being haunted by someone else's memories, she gradually discovers that she died and was then unnaturally brought back to life. "Bride" will have no connection to the studio's 19th century-set Van Helsing, due out May 7, though the Frankenstein character makes an appearance in that pic.

What in the hell? Do we need all these remakes? First Texas Chainsaw, then Amityville, Dawn of the Dead and now this?!?!? I'm sorry, but I'm one of those who consider 'Bride of Frankenstein' the single best sequels ever produced .
Needless to say I'm disgusted.

This film has already been remade. The Bride, starring Sting and Jennifer Beals. And there was also the second half of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

Never seen The Bride (goin' to look for it now), but I will give you the second half of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

Still, it does not change the fact that we don't need yet another remake of this film.

I don't see how this is really a 're-make'. Sounds like they're just using the title (and maybe not even that). I don't see what the big hairy deal is.

I wouldn't really call that part in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein a remake since that part was in the book. Let's reserve our judgement until the movie is seen.

SW is not a remake of Hidden Fortress...only real thing Lucas took from HF is the thing that the story is told from the two least characters...the 2 peasents in HF and 3PO and R2 in SW...try and watch the interview on the HF DVD...

What the hell does this have to do with the original? The final product might be a wonderful movie, but piggy-backing it on the title of a bona-fide classic tells me that these people have no confidence in their talents, and no motivation except money.

There is nothing new about remakes. Hollywood has been cranking them out since the silent era.

12 out of 17 sucked. That gives the Bride of Frankenstein a 71% chance of sucking balls.

Ah, but what percentage of *original* Hollywood movies suck balls? It's probably higher.

Remakes happen all the time, and many renowned and loved movies are remakes (Wizard of Oz, Robin Hood, Ben Hur, Maltese Falcon, etc. etc. etc.) If something is crap, condemn it for being crap, not because it happens to be a remake.
