With DVD so popular, have any movies not been released on VHS?
With DVD’s surpassing VHS in sales and rentals have any recent movies only come out on DVD and not on VHS? Thinking of smaller films.
If this has not happened yet, when do you think the studios will stop putting movies on VHS?

Whenever it becomes unprofitable. VHS sales are way down, but rentals still are a decent market. And production of VHS tapes is pretty cheap as most things are sunk costs. No reason not to make money if it's there.

Well a few stores like Circuit City and BB have stopped carrying VHS save for only the most popular new releases. There are two local CCs around me that don't carry them at all.
I would say that until DVDR becomes more mainstream, they will continue to do so.
However, I think that studios should consider a partnership with Apex or some other lowend manufacturer and come up with an intro deal of some kind. Say, a DVD player and 3 popular movies for $49.99.

For a while at least, VHS releases of new movies will continue for the rental market, along with children's tapes. I don't imagine that many catalogue titles will be released on anything but DVD.
