I always thought threads were closed after 10 or so pages because of "problems" w/ the server software, for example the Superbowl thread went through about 4 versions each of only about 10 pages. Currently in the main forum there is a 28 PAGE thread ( http://dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=342934 ) that's still going strong -eek- I demand answers... I support a call for an independant investigation into this... If the mods are lying about this, what else have they been lying to us about...

28 pages? Try this one (http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=292312&perpage=25&pagenumber=116).

Even though I am a mod, and I usually try to enforce the "closing for length" policy, I think the forum software has been updated, and modified in such a way that there won't be as many problems with the database crashing from having too many pages. In my opinion, it is still a wise idea to close a thread after several pages, at least for the sake of organization and keeping topics up to date (and less so for technical issues).

How did I end up in the Feedback Forum?

What needs investigating is not why that thread wasn't closed but why it went on for 28 pages. I mean that DVD WILL come out eventually. Some people making over 40 phone calls, going to each store in their city as if they were searching for the Holy Grail, etc... These people need to seek professional help. :)

You've obviously never been to the DVD Talk forum.

I've said for years that there was second mod near the grassy knoll but no one believed me. :(

Yes, and there's more crazy people there than there are here. :)

It was supposed to be a joke thread, not a serious comment/feedback... I guess we all can't be The Edit King or kvrdave though :o

Actually, it used to be true, but in the last 6 months we've done massive upgrades to our database and web servers as well as several bug fix updates to the forum, so the pages per thread issue isn't one that effects the forum any longer

Now we can have a "One and Only Smallball Thread"! No more figuring out Roman Numerals!

Sweet! Does this mean we'll never have to see a Smallball Thread Part M (or a Lakers Thread Part IV)?

maybe we should test it out by trying to create the longest thread ever ;)

We've just eliminated the temptation to see how fast a thread can grow to 10 pages. So let's not go there. ;)

...Actually, that wouldn't be good since it would be like 250 pages.

Possible? Yes. But then whoever started the first one that's still around would have the power to wipe out half of twikoff's post count with 3 clicks of their mouse.

Don't you mean 2500 pages?

i don't want one and only threads where it gets crazy, (try reading some threads at htf without getting lost.

That's nothing compared to the 40 pages of Star Wars bickering on the HTF where half of those pages are spent wondering whether the voice of Vader saying "Alert my Stardestroyer" was actually James Earl Jones.

The Star Wars thread here is thought-provoking and even-handed by comparison.
