Well #$%!

I had no idea he was leaving. Where is he going?

edit: I just realized I put not idea in the title

Yeah I read that yesterday. Supposedly doing PTI and writing his columns and doing radio are getting to be too much so he is giving up the radio gig. At least that is the party line, who knows if that is truly the case.

Any idea who'll replace him?

I think Kornheiser was being forced out of a lot of markets by Jim Rome. That's what happened here in Chicago, the ESPN station dropped Korn to add Rome. :yack:

The article I read said ESPN would begin looking for one. No mention of any potential replacements.

I certainly don't mind Rome as much as some, but after getting XM for Christmas I had switched from Rome to Kornheiser. I love his show. This is disappointing news.

If Jim Rome takes that slot I'll be tuning into another station for that slot. Just my preference but I can't stand Rome.

I'll miss Kornheiser's humor and story's.

If Rome is doing better than Kornheiser, I weep for this country. Since CBS is doing a pilot sitcom based on his life (with Jason Alexander playing Tony), he may become more involved with that if the network picks it up.

As long as Tony keeps doing PTI, I can survive.

You know I heard Tony mention something about Jason Alexander and thought he was joking. I guess he's not.

Take this only as a rumor, but here in the NW, its being said that KGW's Colin Cowherd will be the 'replacement'. Cowherd is a TV sports anchor and has a morning radio show.

Whew! I thought you meant leaving PTI!

We have never gotten Kornheiser in Tampa. Just Rome in the 12-3 slot.

Yep, I panicked when seeing this thread as I thought it meant he was leaving PTI. :D

I couldn't care less about the radio gig, as I rarely listen to the radio, and never to sports talk radio.

That is/was the beauty of Tony's show - it was so much more than a sports talk show (which, for the most part, I can't stand). Movies, TV, etc. - it's all fair game on the Kornheiser show (I love Wednesdays when they go over the previous night's episode of 24). And he rarely has currently active athletes on because he (accurately) thinks most of them are terrible interviews. I actually like both him and Rome, for very different reasons. Tony can be very entertaining for 3 hours without a single guest or caller, whereas Rome's show thrives on his getting the best interviews and the Clones calling in.

Bah. When is he supposed to leave? I hardly ever watch PTI anymore because his radio show is so much better.

Don't scare me like that. I thought you meant he was leaving PTI! Okay, heart rate back to normal now, I don't listen to the radio so as long as Kornheiser stays on PTI, I'm happy.

I didn't even think about the vague title till everyone came in here scared to death :) I would be upset too if he left PTI.

I will miss those three hours at work to no end. Especially the mail at the end. I heard his "jingle" in a local Ace Hardware commercial this weekend. Is that a song or something he came up with?

I mean how can you not like Kornheiser.

I TiVo PTI everyday and we watch it after dinner. Every day my 2 year old runs up to the TV and says "Thats Tony!"

I truly don't know how he knows who he is. I'm assuming he heard me say his name one day. I'm trying to teach him Wilbon but he's not having it :D

You should videotape that and send it in. I bet they would air it.

Tony just gave a lengthy explanation on why he's leaving radio. To sum it up it was because his 3 jobs are killing him and he felt radio was the one that needed to go. My guess is it paid the least ;) Nevertheless he'll be greatly missed and he offered he mentioned it was nothing at all against ESPN although they had their differences on how his show should be ran. He also mentioned the major markets dropping his show for someone, he didn't say but I'm assuming Rome. *sigh*

I've only listened to his show for about 6 months and am deeply saddened that I only got to listen for that long. He mentioned how radio becomes personal to the listeners as apposed to television and a written story. He said he was going back to doing something locally (Wash DC) months down the road.

spainlinx0,

I did e-mail him about that story but either I missed it or he didn't mention it. I'm in the DC area quite a bit and wouldn't it be great if we ran into him in the mall or something and my little one yelled out "Thats Tony!" I get the feeling he's the type of person who would appreciate something like that.

It would be even funnier if your 2yo called him 'Mr. Tony.'

A PTI question for you, in the montage of stars behind Mike and Tony who's the dark haired/eyed girl behind Tony's left shoulder and next to Tiger?. Not usually my type but she's very nice.

I think it's the Canadian Skater. I can't remember her name. I'm sure someone will.

Whew! I thought the same thing!

I don't listen to the radio much (maybe I should), and the only one I ever hear when I do turn to ESPN radio is Dan Patrick.

As much as I thought Dibs was a walking douche on the radio....Patrick by himself on the radio is as exciting as watching paint dry.

But we get 4 hours ;) of Mr. Tony on the radio every day, so its all good.

Great news!

I heard today while going to work starting Feb. 28th Tony's show is going to be on XM from 11-1. I don't know the channel but they said something "Extreme"

Fans of Mr. Tony and PTI, Kornheiser and Wilbon will be on Letterman Thursday night. Sadly, no PTI the rest of the week.

You won't see PTI again this week, but you might be able to get a slight fix on Thursday as Tony and Michael are scheduled to appear together on the Late Show with David Letterman. I am looking forward to this a lot.
