I did it, I bought the Panasonic 47" Projection HDTV from Circuit City
Here is the model I bought:
Panasonic 47" HDTV
Anyone out there have this model?
The picture seems great with just a regular cable signal. I didn't have time to test out a DVD yet since we were having friends over and I was trying to get it unboxed and setup in time for kick off last night. I know I need to get a new DVD player and I am thinking about a DVD/VCR combo.
Any suggestions on equipment to buy or fine tuning this baby?

First thing you need to do is turn down the brightness and contrast to less than half. It's in torch mode now, and prone to burn in. Get yourself Avia or Digital Video Essentials (calibration discs) and try to set up everything as best you can. Then after about 100-120 hours on the set get it ISF calibrated.

Please don't get a dvd/vcr combo you'll get substandard performance from both.
