Naomi Watts cast in Peter Jackson's King Kong

When I was discussing who could play the female lead with a friend, she was actually our top pick. Charlize Theron would have been good but she has already made a big monkey movie with Mighty Joe Young.
As for the others, I hope PJ retains the services of Viggo Mortensen as Jack and/or Hugo Weaving as Carl Denham. I also hope PJ sticks to his original script idea of having Ann (Watts' alleged character) be a tough woman with a soft spot for Kong as opposed to a screamer. Also, the script had her as an English woman, so Watts could keep her sexy accent!

I hate it that everyone is jumping on the Naomi Watts bandwagon...I had her all to myself after seeing Tank Girl in 1995...I was probably the only one infatuated with her back then...now everyone is drooling over her (but I'm probably the only one who likes her in glasses & black hair).
Anyway, I'm glad to see that Jackson cast her, she's a great actress. I can't wait for this film!

Jaymole... you're not alone. I remember reading about her in "Smash Hits" (english mag) when I was young, thinking "my my my, she's pretty. And doable. Pretty doable?"
Watching the film, though... such wasted potential... and since when was Tank Girl a yank?
My first response to Mulholland Dr. was "what? Jet Girl and Lambada dancer?"
SHe's getting old now though... oh, to see her in the nineties. She was a dream.

My friend who is a yoga teacher had the great honor of giving Naomi Watts some private yoga lessons when she was filming "We Don't Live Here Anymore" in Vancouver last year. He said she was very adept in a lot the more difficult "bendy" postures. He also mentioned she, along with Heath Ledger, were very down-to-earth and friendly.
In conclusion, he had three words to describe her...
"Gorgeous...just gorgeous."

Just finished re-reading the script PJ and Fran Walsh wrote back in 1996. It is a first draft and obviously in need of some brush-up work. However, there is clearly a lot of depth in terms of what kind of story is being told, and the characters are far from 2 dimensional. The only gripe is that it has some unneeded melodrama and rather self-appreciating if not satirical action descriptions, like this:
The SURVIVING NATIVES scatter! KONG rampages after them, STOMPING ON
THEM and BITING THEIR HEADS OFF ... in a scene that not only gets a PG
13, but is PRAISED by the MPAA for it's sensitivity!
Here is a link to the script if you want to muse over it.

One thing I have never understood that even this Kong version fails to explain: why is it always a BLONDE that tames him? What is it about them?
Then again, what male wouldn't go for this?

She'd tame any kong.

I can't wait to see this. Peter jackson is suppsoedly an enormous Kong fan. The 1996 draft of Kong is pretty much out...as far as I heard he has rewritten the whole film, taking into consideration his experience from LoTR. But considering how well that turned out, and Jackson's love for the material, I am ecstatic to see this.
And Naomi...good choice, she's like Nicole Kidman part deux...but less pale.

I know quite a few "radicals" who believe King Kong is an parable or allegory for the evils of Black men(represented by Kong) getting involved with the White Devil's woman(The blonde). I'm serious.

If so, the people who found LOTR racist would have a field day this one.

I don't know why King Kong can't just be a parable about man trying to tame nature. All this re-thinking of popular classics is getting tiresome - in order to prove something is racist, you must also prove pre-meditation otherwise it's just a theory.
As for why Kong prefers blondes - dont most guys?

A few strange King Kong facts:
1-For some strange reason King Kong has frequent flashbacks to Liv Tyler.
2- A group of short hairy men keep wandering around trying to destroy "The One Banana"
3-Instead of Ann taming the Beast. A strange CGI character becomes "Precious" to him.
4- John Rhys-Davies is cast to bring the voice of Kong to life.

Jaymole . . . you are far from alone with your thoughts on Jet Girl. I had a big thing for her when Tank Girl came out. I was looking for a good shot of her in her "Liquid Silver" outfit (the one she stole that had the clear plastic pants . . . ), but haven't been able to find a one.
Actually, she was born in England and moved to Australia when she was 14.
